Possibly, you need to get out more .... ??? :)

The Second Officer is the first one you encounter when entering the cockpit. :) The First Officer is the second one you encounter. :)

But then ... the Second Officer is third in command. :) And the First Officer is second in command.

Make sense ... ????? :)
