The good thing about officer recruiters is that they really don't get anything from stretching the truth or giving you false hope. If you weren't competitive they wouldn't be motivating you to keep going (or may not even be talking to you at all) because all you would be to them is another applicant with no chance just wasting their time. I was in the March board as well and have stats comparable to yours (6/6/7 54, 3.72 gpa, and more community service/leadership positions/work experience than just about anyone on that board...im talking 10 years + on alot of them) my processor told me there were close to 400 applications and only 30 selects, whereas its normally 100 applications with 30 selects. He said when it gets to be a ridiculous number like they often will set aside a good portion of those who didn't score over X oar, Y AQR, and Z PFAR, because there is no chance they can review all 400 and get results out in a timely manner. My recruiter confirmed this and said there were applicants in that board stacking up all the way back to October. I'm 22, my plan is to keep applying for the next 5 or so years until I land on a fair board and A) i'm selected, or B) I wear them down and they select me just so they don't have to read my app again.

lol that is the exact attitude i have.... anyway here is my reconsideration letter. Any advice would be great. After you guys take a look at this i will post my moto statement for the same advice....

To The Naval Selection Board,

My name is Micah Henzel, I am an American and have an intense desire to serve in the United States Navy. The reasons behind why I want to become an officer within the United States Navy are many, however the honor in doing so is without a doubt at the top of my list. I am proud to be an American and to this end would be thrilled at the opportunity at serving the country I so love. The foundation of America is that of opportunity, and through victory over challenges such opportunities may be capitalized upon. Of the myriad opportunities available to me within America, that which I am most passionate about pursuing is that of the United States Navy Officer Candidate School. For the following reasons it will be abundantly clear as to why I have made this choice, and likewise my potential value to the Navy will be exhibited. I ask that you consider the information contained herein with the meticulous care that went into its writing, as I take this opportunity very seriously and would hope my request for consideration likewise be perceived as such.

The United States Navy as with any other governmental service is based upon the commitment of its members. Commitment is something I understand in full, as throughout life I have learned the value of not only establishing goals, but following them through to their successful end. Such an attitude has enabled me to complete my college-course work, with my graduation from SUNY Albany with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a minor in economics. This course of study was pursued so as to give me not simply an understanding as to life, but also how it effectively functions within the confines of our modern capitalist society. This appreciation for knowledge and the unknown came about at a young age, when I was enthralled by a neighbor who was an employee of American Airlines, working as a pilot. This experience awakened in me an interest in aviation, with naval aviation being a central focus of mine throughout my early childhood. While this interest would momentarily dwindle it would be reawakened during my educative years due to a chance encounter.

Having graduated high school I moved on to college, studying biology upon beginning my tenure at SUNY Albany. Throughout my education at SUNY Albany I had the opportunity to not only gain knowledge, but also to see it put to work. This is one of the many facets of the Navy that I find attractive, in that not only will I be learning, but I will be doing and utilizing my knowledge in a real-world environment within which it is applicable. This first hand knowledge came in the form of an internship I experienced at Albany Medical Center in the cancer research Laboratory. While my education and experience has opened many available paths to me, I still feel the pull and allure of a career in the Untied States Navy .

Having graduated college and achieved my degree, I feel it is time to pursue that which I would most like to invest my time and life into, that of the United States Navy. The career of naval aviator is my ultimate goal, however I understand the commitment and steps necessary to accomplish prior to achieving this. Through research I have learned that to be a naval aviator one must first be a commissioned officer. Wishing to gain the full benefit of progressing through the ranks, this has brought about my decision and desire to pursue the Officer Candidate School. Should I be given the opportunity of participating in the Navy’s Officer Candidate School the Navy will find in me an exceptionally dedicated and talented individual who will not only fulfill it's requirements, but exceed expectations upon being given the chance to truly contribute.

Thank you all..... please no bashing... constructive criticism and advice will be appreciated

reconsideration letter is like an extention to your motivational statement. you have to write one when you re-apply to OCS. thats why its called reconsideration.

To The Naval Selection Board,

My name is Micah Henzel, I....

This is just some constructive criticism: Your letter needs to be toned down a little bit. By that I mean you need to get rid of all the "as to"s and "within"s. It sounds way too wordy. I understand what you're trying to do but it just doesn't come off that well. And honestly, to me it doesn't sound very sincere. I'm not saying it's not. Your posts prove you're dedicated and genuinely want this but your letter doesn't. I would make it less of a history lesson and just more of why it's so important to you. The "America, this. America that"s sound like you just got here. Anyone reading your letter knows why America is the shit so I'd probably take that out. Just my .02, nothing personal just an unbiased critique. Keep it up and good luck man.
