Can't answer that one. I've had it for almost two years and haven't had a single problem.

Had Macs since 1988 and have had exactly one hardware problem and only once have had to call tech support. Currently own three one of which is 10 years old and it still chugs along as my internet and podcast computer in the workshop (it's a grape iMac G3).

I also spend much of my life doing system engineering for and on a large scale enterprise (65,000+ users and over 1000 applications of mixed COTS/GOTS) Windows, Linux and Solaris desktops and servers for my customer. They have their place. Just not in my house.

If you enjoy playing with computers by all means get a Linux box and enjoy but don't think it is a ready out of the box evolution.

When I was (a lot) younger I thought only gay people and libraries bought the pretty-hued iMacs... my world was shaken to discover that they invaded that last bastion of masculinity, Naval Aviation. Call me enlightened.

Neat, a punk who wasn't born when I was commissioned wondering what invaded "his" manly world of Naval Air.

To paraphrase my senior, I weep.

I'm guessing that your experience at work with Linux is with one of the number of enterprise distros out there. Linux has come a long way. I've been fiddling with it since college (Computer Science major), and I can tell you that it pretty much is a ready out of the box evolution now. Kubuntu & Ubuntu are distros that do every thing for install on their own. I didn't have to tweak a thing and it works perfectly. The only thing I did do was install crossover linux to run MS Office & BeerSmith.

I won't lie, I think the Mac's are nice looking and the operating system would be nice to use//learn/play with. I HATE the fact that Apple's EULA doesn't allow Mac OS X to be installed on anything but Apple hardware. I'm watching Psystar's lawsuit closely. I like the analogy Psystar has used. Apple's EULA is like buying a Honda, but only being allowed to drive it on Honda approved roads.

I prefer PC. All of my stuff is for PC. If it breaks I know how to fix it.

I have no clue how to use a mac. If it breaks I don't know what to do. I know how to crawl inside of my pc and fix things. I don't want to learn a new computer.

And the mac commercials are funny but stupid. My PC will surf the internet and do all the "cool" stuff a mac will do. Kinda like the alltell commercials. Do you want a "cool" cell phone or one with a nerdy guy who's there to fix all your problems?

I like my PC.

For most people, it comes down to type-familiarity and cost. I just don't think personally I'll ever be able to justify the cost of a Mac when I can keep my "shitty" Dell crash and virus free with almost no effort.

Although my Dad, a life-long Mac-basher (back before application compatability, etc.), now loves his Whatever-Book for the many conveniences it affords. Usually he shows me something that is "so cool!" and I shrug and honestly don't give shit... But he is officially old now, and I'm a punk kid.
