Conditional Release?

Hey all. I had another question if some of you don't mind helping me out again. I just got off the phone with a recruiter who is attempting to help me get in contact with my local one (who has dodged the phone for the last four business days). I informed him that I am active duty enlisted and he asked if I had a conditional release. I replied that I did not and have about a year and some change left on my contract. Also, I have about a year left before I graduate with my degree.

He stated that I would be unable to submit a packaged unless my CO signs a conditional release form prior to sending my package through. This was a bit perplexing to me. I have to leave the military before I send a package that may not even get accepted? As a man with a family, this is a bit worrisome as it means I would have to leave a job before I even got accepted into another one. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't see why I couldn't send my package through and if I were accepted then request a conditional release. If I get it great, if not bummer I'll try again. I'm sure civilians who have gotten accepted in the past have ended up not attending OCS because of some personal issues... I just don't understand why I would need to take such a large and unnecessary risk.

I know in the past I've seen an enlisted airmen put through an OCS package while still being on active duty, get accepted, and head off. Am I missing something here?

On an unrelated manner sorry for the long post... I enjoy writing.

Thanks again!

A conditional release would be conditional on you being selected to go to OCS. If you weren't selected you would not be released.

In nearly all cases you have to be within 6 months of graduation to submit, not saying you can't prepare your application now though.

6 months? My previous recruiter told me I had to be within a year. Either way, I definitely want to start preparing now and do as much as possible.

The standard has been 6 months, then they moved it out to a year, then back to 6 months a few years ago, there were several here that had their applications kicked back because they were outside that window, they could have changed it again, either way preparing now won't hurt!

Looks good to me
I was 7 months from graduation when I was selected in the last Pilot/NFO board if that's any indication.

Google DD Form 368. It will give you an idea about what the Conditional Release process entails. I had to have one since I am AD Coast Guard with EoE Feb 2017. It wasn't so hard. Recruiter signed it, I took it through my chain of command and had it signed. Began rest of application process.

So we can submit a kit before graduation? I always thought we couldn't apply until the transcript says degree conferred

You can apply in fact on one of the pages, I believe pg. 3, it ask for information and a letter from your school if you are not finished. It also ask for your expected graduation date.

Ok, so I got PRO-REC Y for Supply Corps Program via the NOV board. I am a SELERES on ADSW orders, and it was up in the air if I needed a 368. I did not obtain one before submitting my kit, nor did the processor at NRD request one from me. My question would be, before I leave for OCS, will that be a requirement?

You may. I submitted end of July and got my Pro-Y last month at the 29 OCT SNA/SNFO board, and I will not be graduating until May 2015, so I was reviewed by the board about 6-7 months before graduation. All I remember writing on my application regarding school was an expected graduation date and all current transcripts from any schools attended. Talk to your recruiter for more information, but I do know it's possible.

lawdog,
let me see if the facts are as follows, you are currently enlisted and working towards completing your degree, which is awesome by the way! Your EAOS is what about 14 months away and you do not intend on re-enlisting/ PTS looks bleek? sorry career waypoint, same difference. As a Sailor who not eight months ago was enlisted, got selected to OCS last december (With a projected GRAD date on Application, no degree in hand), classed up in May and graduated in August, I may be able to point you in the right direction.
You most certainly should be putting together your package, i do not say kit, because kit is most commonly a recruiter reference, which is not who you should be going through. Your CCC and further more you chain of command should be assisting you, thats how you get selected from the Active Duty side, not through a recruiter, but through the guidance provided in the 1420.1b. Though I will say that a Recruiter, a good recruiter, can be worth their weight in gold for general package questions and helping to find officers to lend a hand appraising your package. But the bulk is on you and the CCC to complete and submit with your CO's endorsement. The conditional release happens once selected and honestly at OCS for some.
Feel free to hit me up on the PM side of things if you need any more help. Best of luck!
