Cool Stuff in Pensacola.

My family is taking a trip to Florida this summer. I've got them talked in to going to the Naval Aviation museum, do you guys have any suggestions on some cool naval aviation stuff that a 15 year old wanna be would like to see in Pensocola? Would REALLY appreciate it.

Other than the museum, you could hope to see the blues practice if they are in town.
 
All right, assuming that you don't have fond memories associated with the SUYA like all of us OCS grads do, there are a couple of nice things about Pensacola. The museum is a great idea. Everyone likes that. Be sure to catch a show at the IMAX while you're there. Just not the fighter one. "It's gay" Not my words, those were spoken by a fighter pilot in reference to the IMAX show. I think it's about Red Flag or something like that. The helicopter one is all right.

As for the Blues, assuming they're not on tour (which they very well may be in the middle of the summer) they practice on Tuesday mornings. You can see them from pretty much anywhere in the city, though the museum parking lot would be pretty prime for viewing that.

Other than that, from an aviator wannabe point of view, you should stop by "Wings" aviation supplies. They've got some pretty good stuff there. Go there before you spend more at the museum gift shop for the same thing. Ask where it is. You really can't miss it since it has an F-4U Corsair on top of the building.

Otherwise, unless somebody in your group is military and can sponsor you on the bases, there's not a whole lot else aviation related. Don't worry, though. There's a whole lot of other things to keep you happy.

Jeff, take the opportunity to watch the Blues practice if they are up when you're in P'cola. I didn't know about the Tuesday practice thing. That would be a ton of fun.

They put a T-6 up there about a year and a half ago or so.

They practice in winter so they can do airshows in summer, but do practice as well in the warm months. Check this link for their show and practice schedule as well as museum visits

8 am is when I think they practice.

Have your folks take you to Hooters out at the beach. You will probably see the same girls in 6 years only they will have had about 15 SNA/SNFO boyfriends/fiances by the time you reacquaint and will be working as beer girls at Seville:D. Above Average on the preflight planning young padowin!

Wings also has something of a ready room style "bar" in it now, as well. Free beer on tap, though if you partake I imagine you should also at least buy something. Unfortunately, I don't think he'll let a 15-year-old drink.
 
Sammy's of Pensacola......okay, might have to wait a year or two for that one. Plus you mom may not approve.
