Just my two cents, I currently live on base for primary, and its great. Good housing, very cheap compared to the in town rates for rent, and if you have a townhouse (like me) they don't take your BAH, just automatically deduct rent from your pay. Also no gate traffic, would highly recommend
Is the rent not full BAH?

If not, could be a deal. I remember seriously considering base housing until they told me and my roommate we would both lose all of our BAH despite residing in the same house. I laughed my way out of the office and lived on the island; my information is admittedly dated though and I am sad to hear that living on the island has gotten expensive.

Yeah that is why I never even considered living on base anywhere. BAH deduction could be great for those like me, who didn't want to get into real estate too early :)

K-Bay had town homes like that. I'm not sure what the official justification was, but it was a separate "deal" than the regular housing. We had an AMO single-mom that lived there with her two kids. She also had a "woman friend" that lived with her (this was before the repeal of DADT).

I always mused that that housing situation was a way for the Marines to look the other way and allow everyone to go about their business. Obviously that wasn't the actual point of it, but I'm sure it was convenient in this situation.

I'd never wanna put a navy gate guard between dinner and home.

Rent is not full BAH, its close (its 1240/mo currently), but if you live with a roommate as I do, its an absolute steal, which is why i went for it. Especially when comparing it to what my apartment on the island cost when i first moved here (1900/mo).

Sad to hear that the island got expensive; glad base housing got it together regarding roommates. I couldn’t believe they wanted to charge me and a roommate full BAH (each) to live together when I went thorough Primary.

Wow, sounds like a 180 from when you were here, but i will say the only caveat is that if you have a house on base, they will take your full BAH, but I have one of the townhouses, so they charge rent.

Ah… I don’t even remember those being a thing.
