^^No kidding. sciguy, I don't want to pile on you or anything since it seems like you're trying your best to lose weight, but for any other potential candidates reading his post- that's almost all bum gouge (BAD ADVICE).
Don't ever go for a walk to help get you in shape. Try to run outside (or on an indoor track) whenever you can. Use treadmills if you have to...ellipticals are worthless (same pretty much goes for those bike machines).
Hills CAN hurt you if you're overdoing it- this especially applies if you're lifting too (as you should be). Doing serious squats can make your knees sore, and that would just be exacerbated by running hills.
To address of sci's diet advice- there's a lot of really shitty stuff to eat in grocery stores and a lot of good stuff in restaurants. Just be smart.
