I'll be "that guy" and say what most are thinking: your chances are slim. Tough enough to get into an officer program these days for many who have impeccable records. Witholding information regarding a felony is a non-starter even if you weren't prosecuted. Honestly, I'd start looking for another job - just the way it is.

Your welcome, KBayDog. But anyways I just want to know how they would take it, considering I committed none of the felonies even though I was charged with them? Just answer that question for me. And say I were to get rejected from naval officer training (which, from what this thread is telling me, is probable) I would find out before I actually did anything, correct? Like, if they were going to say I couldn't be a pilot because of these offenses, they would tell me right off the bat, correct? I wouldn't want to go through a bunch of training, then get cut afterwards.

Question: Being charged is one thing. Were you actually convicted or not?

Question: Did you not seek counsel?

Again, you seem to be caught up in rationalizing that it's not your fault, but you are avoiding the issue that the folks will see in your character as failing to stand up for your actions even if you made some bad choices. This would make a panel think you will be prone to repeat similar actions AND/OR that you rationalize when you should step up and be accountable. I doubt anyone is pure as the driven snow and nobody is telling you to get lost, but listen to the messages that are being sent your way. The questions get asked right off the bat so you won't even be allowed to get started unless you put this to rest.

Be careful, you don't know who you are really talking to on this board, but many of these guys are officers in the Navy and Marine Corps. I would try to stay as respectful as possible, arguing your case is only further proving your deficiencies in character.

Attempt #2: I don't think anyone here is busting on you because you made a mistake or got caught up in something or had bad luck or whatever you want to call it.

What everyone on the board is trying to stress, I think, is that YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS. If the Navy was to allow you the privilige of serving, OUR LIVES WOULD BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. That is why we feel so strongly about this.

And, oh yeah, you're lucky the law caught you and not any of the gun owners on this board.

Haha don't worry being a pilot was just a thought, none of this news is heartbreaking to me. I'm only 18 after all, who knows what I'll be doing in 4 years. But anyways the fact that I didn't snitch on them immediately after I found out about the crime would exclude me from a chance at officer training? Figures

Am I being disrespectful?
I'm only "arguing my case" since I was an idiot juvenile back then. There's a reason the juvenile records are sealed, its because the person you are at 17 is not the person morally or intellectually that you are at 22.

They would have shot me, huh? Is that what you're insinuating?

If any of you were wondering, the guns stolen were 4 african hunting rifles from the 1930's, with ivory all over them. Beautiful things. I returned all four of them when my three fellow criminals wanted to throw them off a bridge.

I agree with all that has been said so far with respect to your situation. What I don't buy is your "I was lied to and used" innocence scheme. Are you telling me that these guys were all church going model citizens who suddenly snapped and decided to commit multiple felonies? Bullsh!t. You were hanging with a bad crowd and that says a lot about your character. I'm all for giving second chances, but you're not even contrite about it, as others have pointed out. I'll sum it up for you: Your kind isn't wanted here.

"Contrite," eh, Brett? Shit, that's rep points for vocabulary.

Hmm... Apparently, I must spread the love around before giving Brett327 any more reputation. Damn the man.

I think it's probably best if you find another career choice. There are certainly integrity issues here, and this job calls for absolute integrity at all times. People's lives depend on it. Good luck.
