Zilch

This...is...Caketown!
It really sucks that this happened when he was filming a segment for his daughter's show. Hope she doesn't develop any guilt issues over that.

Actually, that was my first concern. Eight-year-olds are at an egocentric stage in their development, so they think that events revolve around them. If a loved one dies at this point, the tendency is for them to have guilt-related issues, even if the death had nothing to do with them. For something like this, I can't even imagine what is going on with her. It's going to be awful, I hope she is ok eventually.

Reality check: If you don't "get it" ... then it's good you're not in Aviation. :)

Sorry ....
Yes, I get it.....and yes, it's good I'm not in naval aviation anymore. But of course, as usual, you've neglected to answer the question. No worries though.

No, I don't think you do "get it" ... or you're just throwing it out there to see what sticks to the wall.

But in any case, it's just too hard to answer you on an internet forum, Steve. I have neither the time nor the inclination. Some things are just that way ... so sail safe. O.K. ???

If you believe that ... then you should get out of Aviation. Seriously ... and don't drive a car anymore, either.
I didn't say I wasn't willing to take the chances. But I'm sure the odds of dying in a plane or a car are much greater than being killed by a stingray.

Regardless of whether you liked or disliked what he did...

The sad thing is many parents had to do what I did...explain his death to my 10 and 8 year old who've never really experienced a death of someone they know before.

They kept asking why? That's the real question.

Bottomline; it's just sad that someone has to raise a child by herself, just like all the counterparts of the servicemen/women who turned into widows (or widowers) way too soon.

No matter how their parent passed away, they just went too soon.

You're right. You didn't. You said flying was like playing Russian roulette.

For God's Sake, people ... enough!!! You have no idea which odds are what !!! Talk about blowin' smoke out your azz! I've never seen people obsess over the death of a "celebrity" who pushed the envelope like Steve Irwin did ... his diving FRIEND said on the TV last night that Irwin always ... "PUSHED THE ENVELOPE". His words ... not mine. Ever hear of Evel Knievel? Houdini? THEY knew what they were doing. THEY pushed the envelope, also.

Oh ... you mean they didn't do it for the "environment"? Well, then ...... doesn't count, right ???

You don't have to wrestle crocs to support wildlife and/or the environment. Some of you people - not you, specifically makana - have been raised in some environmental fairyland where anything "animal/environment" = GOOD. Let me let you in on a little secret: wrestling crocs, snakes, and everybit of animal wrangling you've seen on Irwin's shows = not so good. I.e., "pushing the envelope".

The only question is: when does it catch up with you??? Remember those 100' rolls over the beach ... ???

The tragedy is for the family. Someone calls a spade a spade and it makes some of you go ballistic. Death happens. TV celebrities?? Good men are dying in Iraq. Perspective counts. Death happens more often, however, when you "push it". Like I said ... enough.

Yeah, sorry A4s... I have to raise the BS flag on your post. ......We play Russian roulette every time we fly.....
Bullsh!t flag?? YOU are the one who said flying was akin to Russian roulette. Read it. That's the sound of someone who should not be in Aviation. If that's you --- then that's YOU.

.... and THAT'S an attitude I would not tolerate in a Wingman on my wing or a crewmember in my cockpit. Believe it ....
