Crossing the finish line... running, walking or crawling... (Reserve Retirement Process)

May ‘19 and i got the letter in September. I’d check your ARPR/ASOSH on BOL.
Thanks - ASOSH shows me at 20 good years (so I've got that going for me...), but no LOE yet. No big deal, the real "play me or trade me" moment is this year's Board results in a few months. Selected, I hang around; non-select, AMF!

They also upload a copy to your MPF section on BOL, in case maybe porch package thieves stole yours.

You won't get your letter for a few months. I would give PERS a call. Remember, there is ONE person in all of PERS who handles Reserve retirements and she is 6 - 9 months behind.

Spot on - almost 8 months to the day after I was eligible, received my NOE in the mail this week. (Not sure how much COVID-19 delayed the process.) Essentially didn't matter though - when the FY21 O-6 Select list came out a couple of weeks ago and FlyinSpy wasn't on it, I set a new land-speed record between receipt of message and filing for retirement in NSIPS. Elapsed time: ~8 mins. Would have been faster if I didn't have to look up the NOSC CO's email and phone number....

Congrats, I guess. There is that O-6 list. Seriously, it is great thing having a pension and benefits from a part time job.

Retirement certificate, retirement orders/transfer to retired reserve status, and flag all arrived today. Thanks to all the IRR Warriors who helped me get through 6 years of coloring books. Never thought I'd make through the maze to my piece of cheese, but I did it. Next stop: ID Shop to get my red id card.

First order of business: don't forget to sign up for watch. Those arrows on the floors of the commissaries aren't going to enforce themselves.

This is a great thread and I've learned a lot from all of your inputs. My ADSW orders will be ending 8/31, will be reaffiliating with the reserves (reacquainted myself with the local nosc PS1) long enough for my points to catch up, and then dropping my retirement paperwork. ASOSH has me at 22 yrs, and I've been religiously keeping up with all of them being good years. 15+ yrs AD, with the remainder in the SELRES. I'll have over 6000 pts too. The retirement will be / should be, with pay, based on these orders and my age. I'll keep you apprised if/when I receive the roadblocks. A few months back, I ran into a few of my selres sailors, who are already collecting their retired pay(based on mobs, etc and they claimed that it hasn't been that bad, navigating through the process. Keeping fingers crossed, saying a few hail Mary's, as well as praying to the Rosary!

For your 15 years of AD, did you do that 15 years strait and then affiliate with the reserves or did you just leverage as much ADSW/ADT as you could over time to rack up points? Because I had a break in service before coming back into the Reserves I am older then most so when I do my long rang planning it starts looking appealing that I might spend my last 10 years doing as much AD as I can to kick those points up before I retire and immediately collect pension. Just curious what your experience was.

Knew one guy who basically became a professional reservist. He was a solid worker and managed almost 12 years of MOB and ADSW. He liked the reserves so stayed in until HYT. He was basically able to start collecting a nice pension the day he retired from the reserves.

This is a thread jack, but I'd probably be eating ramen or homeless right now without the last few months I did on SELRES orders. Anyone who is getting out, don't miss the simple affiliation. This is obvious right now, but in a couple years, it won't be. I can't speak for the NOSC warriors, but if you go hardware, you can make a living even if the rest of life falls apart due to COVID. And you can basically augment whatever pay you make otherwise by $2500+/month (after taxes) if you max drills. More monies if you take orders. To think I almost cut ties.....silly me. Also a sweet sweet $7800 one time payment bonus hit my checking account today, which is basically worth the full $175k I would have made on active duty had I taken, if being able to tell GOFOs and mentally retarded O-6's to go fuck themselves were a currency. And I can declare myself a civilian any time it is convenient.

BLUF.......if you cut ties at 12 years like I was about to, you are an idiot and you just robbed yourself of an enormous emergency chute in life, not to mention the possible lifetime healthcare benefits. If this is you, as it was nearly me, you dumb. I think we all just saw how the mandatory retirees =/= 121 jobs.
