I was told by CNRC in May that SWO was full and they didnt even bother looking at my package. Did they just open up for 06?

That was FY 05. The FY 06 numbers stated are accurate as of 12AUG05.

Remember, for OCS purposes the FY runs from roughly 01JUL-30JUN. You are a FY05 guy if you start OCS in time to commission bfeore the end of Sept 05. That means the last '05 guys went to OCS in June or the first part of July.

NFO about 30% full 38 slots left = 54 total

Pilot nearly 50% full 42 slots left open = 84 total

= 138

That's it? A total of 138 NA/NFO slots for FY06? I didn't realize the Navy/Marine Corps was taking so few people for flying. Does this reflect far fewer cockpits or better retention or both?

When I first came to active duty recuiting in the mid '80s my district's goal for pilot and NFO was about 30% of the entire nation's goal today. Yup, things have gotten alot smaller.

Question? USNA Class of 2005 had 335 SNFO/SNA, or about 35% of graduating class. Would those count against FY05 or FY06? My thought was FY06.

Ya, I think FY 06 as well. The USNA assessions may be treated differently, but I think FY 06.

is it safer to go through OCS to get a NFO slot than through ROTC?
Don't know what you mean by "safer". A selection for NFO through an OCS process is an offer of NFO flight training before you commit to the Navy. In ROTC you have a committment to the Navy regardless of what you select. You may want NFO but get SWO. YOu have to go SWO in that case.

Wink,

Since the fiscal year starts/ends beginning of october, would an application sent in after 01OCT05 be put up for FY06 or FY07? Non-BDCP.
