DCO Intel Community Gouge (Bonus: "The Long Blue Wait" in FY09)

getawaydriver

What percentage get LCS?
I read that you are applying for the March 2009 DCO/DIRCOM board for the Navy Reserves, but above, you state that you plan to go active when you hit a certain age?

Would you mind clarifying?

Without getting too deep in the weeds and keeping OPSEC in mind, I work in the field already for a well known civilian entity. I have field/collection experience and analytical experience too. The next logical step, if I stay with my particular company, is a job which I really do not desire.

The NR route is something I am passionate about but, I want to have the full active duty option available when that time comes around.

Hope that sheds some light on that previous statement.

Anyway, back to the USNR DCO show!

I'll update the thread when I hear something...

Updates...

The December Intel board wanted me to do two more O-5 interviews, hence why they tabled me. I hustled and lined up interviews with two O-5's.

I opted to met the CDR's face-to-face and drove 500+ miles to meet each of them at their respective locations. For others in the process, I would highly recommend meeting face-to-face for your interviews. I know it's a pain and you can conduct interviews over the phone, but going the extra mile says a great deal about your motivation.

The February Intel board me on Monday and I am anxiously awaiting the results.

Will keep you posted...

DCO/DIRCOM (Intel Officer) Interview Gouge

Gents, I hope you find this useful. I didn't want to fill up a thread with the text version because the document is nine pages in length.

Mods, sticky, please?

From the document:
This guide is intended as a tool for RIAs in establishing effective local DIRCOM boards. Questions and procedures are 'best practices' gleaned from various RIAs and should not be construed as requirements.

The selection of high quality candidates for the Naval Reserve Intelligence Command (NRIC) Direct Commissioning Program depends initially upon a variety of important factors. First, the local Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Reserve Intelligence Area must keep lines of communication open with officer program recruiters. The local recruiters must have a clear understanding of CONINAVRESINTCOM junior officer requirements, and be willing to actively recruit interested and eligible candidates. Local recruiters must also be able to screen out or redirect interested individuals if they do not meet the intelligence program needs.

DCO/DIRCOM (Intel Officer) RIA Gouge

Gents, a list of RIA's (all open source). This information could be very useful for applicants. During my application process, I was directly asked, "Have you given any thought to your unit assignment?"

Sticky me, please :)

That map is wrong. And as of NOV/DEC-08, we're called Naval Intelligence Reserve Regions (NIRRs). I haven't seen a more up to date map, but there's probably one on the private side of the NRWS.

Interesting I was just gained by RIA 16.

But who knows? I'm not even sure the Navy does ;)

Yeah, gotta love name changes. The sharepoint site reflects the changes, but since commands still have to use up the letterhead, nothing else seems to reflect it. Happy to glad changes never make sense, but apparently someone thought it was better.

MODs.... any chance of starting a private DCO forum?

Not likely....

And it's not because we're jerks, but most of the private forums aren't used much, even ones that you would think would have a large audience. I don't really see the DCO crowd too big around here, or too big in the Navy for that matter.

No worries...

It would be interesting to learn of some statistics for the number of DCO officers in the Navy.

Don't sweat the stats man. It's all smoke and mirrors anyway. All you can do is focus on your app, and not worry about what the other applicants have or who they are. Nothing you can do about that. I'd say people who are pretty committed to getting in seem to make it in.

Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster.

First -- thanks to all y'all who have shared your experiences. It's been really helpful.

I submitted my application to the DCO intelligence officer program's February boards and am now on pins and needles awaiting their response. My recruiter told me it would be two to three weeks before the list was posted. Is this in line with what others have heard/experienced? Does anyone know if the list goes out to the public (online?) or is it only available to the recruiters/current USNR?

I hate that it is now Friday afternoon and I'm probably looking at a loooong weekend of wondering!

Congrats!!

My tabled app from the December board was re-reviewed at the Feb. board as well. The wait is killing me. Hopefully, we will each have some good news shortly!

Yup... That's what I was told too.

Hmmmmm.... I have never heard of the list being made public, although I could be wrong. I thought that only the recruiters have access to the lists on their systems.

Tell me about it!
