Deer Hunting Locations in PACNORWEST

Anyone here a deer hunter and stationed in the Washington PACNORWEST region? We have hunted for two seasons on the kitsap peninsula and across the hood canal bridge and have yet to see any deer that are over 4 points (or two by two whichever you prefer)during a season.

I went out and got my wife a rifle, with a scope and she is dialed in ready for some hunting action. I'd like to have her first hunting season be fruitful, and wanted to know if anyone has any gouge on a good location to hunt out of in this region. I know everyone has their honey holes they'd rather not share but if anyone has any spots you think might turn out to be worth hunting, please share.... thanks

I've never gone hunting myself, but all my friends usually hit up the mountains near North Bend and to the south near Tiger Mountain.

I'm not a hunter, but you might check w/:
1. Kesselring's Gun Shop in Alger -- been going there for 20 years and they're always worth the trip.
2. Green's Gun Shop on Monkey Hill Road + rifle/pistol range (not as good now as when Richard Green was alive)
3. Kevin @ Oak Harbor Ace in sporting goods. He's the owner's son and is a big-time hunter and all around sportsman. Good local knowledge, somewhat "intense".

#1 and #3 would probably be your best bet for info ...

You could try driving up 101 to those hills just north of Lake Cushman.

I have family up by Triton and my step-bro killed a healthy sized buck (forget how big the rack was) in that area last year, and I believe it has some clearcuts that are at a good age to glass.

I know you stated deer, but if you're willing to drive, Elk hunting is pretty good down near Roseville, OR. My step-dad goes up there with his brothers every year and they alway come back with something.

Come on down to Tennessee. We have somewhat of a deer overpopulation problem that you are more than welcome to help out with.

It's been 2000 since I hunted out there and I think things have changed a bit. A post over at www.24hourcampfire.com or just a search will yield a lot of info.

It's certainly a varied place and hunting fresh clear cuts over on the Peninsula near forks by carefully glassing will work. I killed Blacktails on Whidbey but that is shotgun and muzzle loader only for firearms. Mt Baker national forest yielded two whitetails and one bear for me. Two very enjoyable places are up the Naches river from Yakima where I killed my only Elk (it was spike only area then, may have chnaged) and the only mule deer I killed was on a draw hunt on the Yakima firing range. hunting the dry side if fun but bring good bino's and use them!

Hunted the Methow valley for two years out of Mazama and it is the most drop dead gorgeous country around but I saw very few deer (never killed one there) always saw bears and it's free range cattle area so had a camp wrecked by a curious herd once!

If you like to have wet feet, stick to the Kitsap area. You could try up by Index.

My grandfather liked to hunt in the eastern Cascades--maybe up around Bumping Lake or Rimrock Lake. (I'm not too sure what's left of those places these days.)
