Do UNSATS/IPC get factored into selection?

Hey y’all,

I’m currently in Primary and selecting in about a month. I recently received an RRU on a sim, which triggered an IPC. Long story short, I was told it's not a huge deal academically since it's only a single sim and not weighted a whole lot.

My question is about selection boards and dream sheets:
When it comes time to select, do they look at your number UNSATs/IPCs in addition to NSS , or is NSS the only driver and your UNSAT record is irrelevant?

My goal is jets, and I’m absolutely not throwing in the towel but just trying to understand how the system actually works. For context, I’ve heard of someone who failed a checkride (IPC trigger) and still went on to select strike.

RRU will be averaged out with the grade you received when you passed the sim. Your GPA (NSS) is what selection is based on. Bottom line is that your selection is driven by needs of the Navy (platform availability). Your on-wing or PA can help you with most of these questions and concerns.

Study hard, practice, keep on learning, and do your best. Always keep a positive mental attitude.

Side story: I got a ready room down (Signal of Difficulty [SOD]/Pink Sheet) while going through the Prowler FRS. We were on det to El Centro (2x flights a day), and I was unprepared for the system discussion with the IP (BTW I nailed the brief, EPs, etc). I beat myself up pretty good, studied my ass off and passed the re-fly with flying colors. What did I learn? Always be prepared for everything and learn from your mistakes/shortcomings.

Learn from it, fix your mistakes, and move on.

The 1700 (I'm pretty sure this is the document number) tells you exactly how your NSS is calculated andthe triggers for an IPC. IIRC, the grading section was only about a 5 minute read and included the exact formula used to calculate NSS. I wouldn't put any more brain power towards NSS than that. Focus on studying hard during the week, decompressing on the weekend, and getting back in the books on Sunday. Everything else is out of your control. I know plenty of people who RRU'd an event who still went on to select strike. Focus your energy on studying for your IPC and your next event after that.
