I received an email from my OSO about this and thought that some of you may be interested.

PBS has filmed a documentary on Marine training. It will air Feb. 21 at 2100 EST.

Overall, John Grant (the producer of the documentary) and his crew did an
outstanding job conveying the elements of what it takes to become and serve as a
Marine. The documentary takes viewers from the 'yellow footprints' to the
streets in Iraq; while spending a great deal of time explaining the Corps'
distinctive culture and warrior ethos. Through an in-depth look at the initial
training of Marines (recruit training and officer candidates school), a walk
through the history and tradition of the Corps, and focus on the Corps values of
honor, courage, and commitment; viewers see why Marines are known as Elite
Warriors and why the legacy of the Corps still lives on today.

Several interviews with Marines, former Marines, and military writers/analysis
highlight the mission of the Marine Corps being to Make Marines and Win Battles.
The Marine Corps is accurately portrayed as a military organization trained to
fight the enemy wherever he is, rather than trying to soften the idea of war and
the purpose of the military.
Several Marines were interviewed in the
documentary; to include General Tryon and LtCol Zeliff. General Tryon was
interviewed as the Commanding General of MCRD, Parris Island. He did a fabulous
job walking the producer/viewers through the recruit training evolution and what
it means to become a United States Marine. LtCol Zeliff was interviewed as the
A/CS Advertising and described the purpose of our advertising campaign and what
the message is that we want to put out to our target audience.

Not a bad documentary. It was nice to see some of the staff on the video that was there when I went through it, instead of seeing some footage from 1998. It made it a bit more personal. It actually brought back the good memories instead of the bad ones like seeing pictures and other stuff usually does.

I was pointing out Staff I was under while watching it with the girlfriend. She thought most of them were really scary. :D

I loved the staff going through the quigley with the candidates because "they wouldnt have made it if they didnt help out". I laughed for a good 10 minutes at that. I can just see them walking away thinking "dammit I had to get wet for this damn show and pretend that I like these nasty college faggots..."

I honestly liked the Quigley. I dont get what everybody gets all wrapped up about with it, the IMC was nastier and it was one of the easier (I.E. less physically taxing) parts of the Combat Course.

In my opinion it was nice to see a very positive piece on our Corps. It seems that you only see the negative and there always the 10% but the one thing most civilians do not understand is the Marines are essential to our countries security and we all sleep better because theres another generation willing to take the challenge to be the best.
S/F and God bless'm all.

i'll tell you why the Quigley sucks...when youre on a boots 'n utes run 2 years later you can still f'ing smell it. this is only one of the many reasons the Quigley sucks; that, along with the fact that if youre 6'3" tall and going under the slanted poles you get stuck. and remember kids...no matter what the SI's tell you, candidates cannot breath underwater
