Does a physical always occur?

So, my daughter has to take copies of her medical records in to her processor today. She was told that the doctors have 48 hours to decide "whether she will be seen for a physical." WHAAAAAT? I've never run into anything about any kind of pre-physical screening process. Am I just in the dark? Does this sound right? What is going on here?

When I went through my application/physical process this spring, the same thing happened to me. I needed to get permission to show up at MEPS--I was asked to send in all my medical records, they were reviewed by a MEPS doctor, and I was actually turned down due to a recent surgery. However, my recruiter decided to resubmit the documents immediately (the same day even) and luckily they were reviewed by a different doctor who was willing to let me get my physical done. So yes, to answer your question, this is normal--at least in my somewhat limited experience. If she doesn't get allowed in for some reason, just resubmit everything and pray a different doctor reviews it the second time!

Yep, this happens with everyone. MEPS is the devil and they're job is to basically find anyway to DQ you physically from whatever branch of service you are applying.

I was turned down from MEPS during my first pre-screen due to hip surgery in high school. However, my recruiter worked with our NRD skipper and another doctor and I got a waiver to go.

Getting a thumbs up to go to MEPS is good, but finally passing after the "duck walk" and underwear olympics felt even better. MEPS is not fun and is a long day that she'll be glad to have behind her once its over.

Oh and MEPS = Military Entrance Processing Station (where all medical screening takes place)

yeah, MEPS is great! even though my hearing passed reqs, they still DQed me for ear problems because of the surgery I had to remove the scar tissue on my ear drum to get my hearing back....just tell her to make sure to have every single serious doctor visit documented with some sort of report from the doctor ready to go if anything comes up

and Andrew, I know your bored in your lab down the road playing with mice but seriously? :p

I disagree. When I went to MEPS, the guy told us that waivers were running above 90% and I felt that their goal is to get people into the military--just people that are safe to put into the military. No one gave me any real trouble and I got along pretty well with some of the staff during the boring down time.

Then again I was out before noon, so I apparently had a better experience than most. Being an officer applicant helps, as it gets you to the front of some lines!

Heh, lucky. I was at the back of most of the lines. I'd heard that I'd be at the front, though, so I didn't think to bring a book or anything.

Not everyone really has the kind of day you had. Every single person who went through MEPS in Denver that I know of, hated every second of it. We got yelled at all day and were treated like crap.

Being an officer applicant may help in some cities, but that is not the case everywhere.

Thanks for all the insight, guys. Her OR said he felt they'll take a look at the physical she had at Langley last December (which is the first document in the pile) where she was pronounced "fit for duty" and proceed from there. It's going to be bumpy. Very, very bumpy. I'll be so glad when this part is over. She'll have no problem with the PRT. But, MEPS....I dunno!
