Since there is such a long backup in API right now, can you take leave? Get a part time job? What else is there to do to fill the time, other than sleep, drink, and work out?

Work out? Hmmm -- better ORM it and clear it with LT H. Getting a job might be too risky, too....

You'll have enough random requirements (that you can't plan for) that would preclude you from having a job...

maybe do one of those IFS add on courses that some of the places have to get a PPL. Go to the beach- learn the bar scene.

Go to the beach

Oh yea - esp if you wing up going to Corpus. Beaches in S Tex are horrible. You'll regret not spending every second of your free time on P'cola Beach or Perdido Key if you wind up down there...

ha ha... good one. It does kinda blow how if your in A-pool and want to do something fun (Scuba, motorcycle, etc.) that you have to ORM it out. I mean, I know were young and dumb, but cut us some slack.

You are getting a paid vacation without burning leave. Why would you want to waste leave or get a part time job? You'll never have this freebie again in your Navy career.

I'm going to lay it out pictorially so it's easy to understand. This is the sequence of events you should be concentrating on....

Simple answer: YES

Your leave chit will be approved or denied depending on your projected class up date. But from what I've been seeing, most everyone has gotten leave, even a week before they classed up. FOs are even encouraged to take leave.

Part-time job? Well, as much as I disapprove on that junk...Yes, u can get a PT job. Talk to Flt Mgmt LT cuz you have to fill out some special chit.

Well, I sleep, drink, work out, and download "cruise" videos. If u get bored, go to Seville Fri/Sat night, Flounders, McGuires, Babes, beach. Heck, if you REALLY get bored, study the pubs.

Great...im sure someone's gonna egg my house now :(

Before IFS, all I did was sleep, eat, workout, watch football, chill on the beach, yadda yadda yadda. Now that I'm in IFS, I get to fly in between the food and the beach. Or the sleep and the beach...

But seriously, use the time to chill and drink and whatever else you like to do.

Fezz, let me know where you live, and I'll gladly egg your house. I do have to teach my fiance how to properly egg and TP a house...

Nice visuals Hal. Fezz may need to use those study up on picking up women after he finishes w/ the pubs... (j/k)

Why do prospective aviators not understand what this free time is all about? Why does this question keep coming up over and over and over again? Guys should learn to STFU and accept that the Navy is giving them a good deal.....no, strike that.....a great deal.

Jolly good advice Steve...

Addition: The pre-API Big Wait is most likely (almost certainly) the ONLY time you'll get this in the Navy... ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS!!! (I know I sure as he!! am)

Hit the beach, go to the bars, workout, bar-b-que, sleep, eat, party... have fun.

To the fair with me!!!

A girl licked my face the 1st night I went out in P'cola immediately followed by her making out with her friend. Me need advice? I think not my friend. muahaha!

If you really don't want to stay in P'cola you can go back to your hometown and work with your local recruiter. I knew a guy who did it and basically just sat around, and only worked the days when the recruiter went to career fairs, etc. The good thing is it doesn't burn up leave, but I'd prefer P'cola instead.

I know that the Navy is giving us a great deal. Heck my grandpa used to joke that he wanted a job that was "all pay no work", and for the next few months I'm living his dream. But I digress.
An honest no sh!t answer to that would be that guys who didnt have alot of free time in college (i.e. engineers/pre-medish type students) have suddenly got culture-shock at all the spare time on their hands, and are having trouble filling the hours. Idle hands and all that. Believe me, I know. I'm one of them. Fortunately I was never very good at being a studious engineer and actually learned to drink when I went to school. Oh, and the beaches here are IN-FRIGGIN-AWESOME! The sand is like sugar!

When I started this thread, I wasn't really saying that I wanted to be busy every minute of my API pool time, but going out and getting trashed every night isn't exactly what I'm looking for. I was just curious as to what else you can do, and what they'll allow you to do in Pensacola.
Are they having some API guys work on some of their EWS requirements?
