As long as I'm not required to have an ID card as a civilian, they can wiretap away...I'd be glad to answer for anything I posted on the internet, but not necessarily for the record of hyperlinks. I've been drunk before, and who knows how many years I'd do for all those Ebay searches for "explosives" and "submarine"...in all seriousness, a full personal inquiry is less scary to me than some sort of automatic evidence machine that already labeled me as a subversive by what my computer did behind my back. That may be paranoid, but it's becoming relevant.

Your words are way too long. If you actually talk like that I hope you don't talk to me, cuz chances are, you'd loose me at "seriousne...." Sigh... dang Pittsburghese...

And what is it, exactly, that your computer is doing behind your back? It's not as though your IE cache is randomly logging on to al Qaeda or child porn websites.

Hey, you never know. It's like the refrigderator light man. Yeah sure, when you close the door it might turn off, even pushing that little button turns the light on and off. But how do you KNOW for sure? The obvious answer? Close youself in your fridge. The trunk of your car is another good example.

Ahh, the epistemological concerns of MS Windows.

Brett

Dang it... gotta go look that word up. Give me a minute.

Yes, it's true. I, like alot of people, do not know sqaut about the inner workings of windows.

I think Brett has become one with his avatar.

Epistemology, from the Greek words episteme (knowledge) and logos (word/speech) is the branch of philosophy that deals with the nature, origin and scope of knowledge...I don't even get that statement.

Epistimology is the knowledge/study of knowledge, i.e. how we know what we know.
I think it has something to do with how most people use MS Windows, but have absolutely no friggin' clue how it actually works. Like, most people drive a car, but most people couldn't rebuild an engine to save their life.
But I could be wrong. I don't typically see that word in common usage.

As usual, I sounded a bit overboard, sorry Brett. I guess I was just curious as to whether it truly takes an act of stupidity (e.g. drunk, naked pictures surfacing when you're trying to run for office) to get in trouble, or whether accessing Al Jazeera a few times or some other legal, but controversial, website could possibly get you flagged by the higher ups.

Running a bunch of searches for guerilla warfare techniques and cell structure for a high school project, for example...sure, the Internet isn't supposed to be private, but is there anyone out there whose job it is to keep track? Or do they work from the criminal suspicion back to the original habits, and not the other way around.

I'm only asking for the sake of the discussion, it's not like I'm doing something stupid and trying to qualify it. We joke about it a lot, and I could care less if my posts sound dumb, but these are the same higher-ups who prosecuted the girl in my class downloading uncopyrighted christmas songs from Kazaa.

This thread has gone off in a bunch of directions which are only tangentially related to the real issue at hand. Let's see if I can summarize.

1. If people you work for (I.E. your CO) identify you engaging in criminal activity (underage drinking or otherwise) online, they can bring that fact to light and take whatever appropriate legal actions against you as they deem necessary.

2. Visiting sites about terrorism or subversive activities is not going to get you flagged on some NSA blacklist. They're far too busy chasing actual terrorists and generally only use information gained from the internet as a corroborative element of an already established investigation.

3. The government doesn't give a rat's a$$ about you or how you go about your life - they just want you to pay your taxes and be orderly. What makes you (all of you) think that your lives are so important or interesting so as to warrant vast expenditures of taxpayer dollars to see what websites you frequent. [/RANT]

So instead of some wierdo in San Laredo spying on me, the wierdo nextdoor spies on me.

Oh, and when you graduate all the wierdos in your city get to spy on you, too. (And boy, are there a lot of wierdos here)

Fun times.

I treat it no different than my web page:

The very model of excitement, ain't it?

Good thing is, I have a buddy hosting my blog, so good luck googling for it.
