Dude, she was asking a question... lay off, it's not like she was asking if she still gets to go to the nail salons and wear pink skirts on weekends!!!

Brett, dude, your heart rate went up answering that more than mine would have if someone told me my hair was getting cut.

You're exactly right. It certainly wasn't meant as a personal attack, but it seems like there are an increasing number of people coming into the officer corps that don't have their priorities straight - I hope you do. This can, and often times is, a very nasty business, so when I see people lamenting their new hairdos, or other such superficialities, I question their mettle and reasons for being here in the first place. I hope I'm not describing you.

wow, a testy group. the hair will be cut. its not flattering, and its very short. accept it now, and move on. focus on why you are in OCS. for me it was flying. the ultimate motivation is when i was in the grass, sandy and wet, struggling as my muscles exceeded failure in every sort of exercise possible, when the Blue Angels flew over. that kept me going. i'm done now, and ready for the next step (short hair and all).
as for people cracking jokes regarding checking email at OCS, the program may have changed since you were there, but i can assure you that the quality of officers coming out of the program has in no way decreased. the individuals getting their commission through OCS are highly motivated, talented individuals and warrant the same respect you got when you were a new ensign.

I didn't go to OCS, shipmate. So are you saying that individuals who are in OCS, checking their email, don't deserve respect since they aren't ensigns?

Oh, they'll get exactly the same respect I got when I was a new ensign.

Hey ensign, there's a war on, where's your computer? etc. etc.

Noted.

And all of the relevant, important, pertinent questions have been asked and answered (i.e. do I have to get my hair cut?)

Is it too much of a stretch for you ladies to call yourselves "women"? It doesn't imply any less of an OCS-graduating attitude, and "females" sounds like we're behavioral biologists or talking like John Wayne all the time.
