Final Select Purgatory

It's just a rumor for now but yes we have heard the same thing for the recruiting side.

Based on what you've seen happen in the past, what course of action do you think they'll take? We're not talking about canceling PRO REC Ys, I'm guessing....

Worst case is they'll stop holding SWO boards until the summer timeframe like last Fiscal Year. No way will NRC cancel PROREC selections.

When this happened before people just waited, some up to 2 years to go to OCS

I don't expect THAT long of a wait for the SWOs.

last time they didn't expect that long of a wait either, it was "in 6 months", then "in 6 months" and so on, looking back I don't think it was 2 years for SWO, I think it was more like just over a year, we had a few IP's that waited close to 2 years though.

Can anyone shed light on how the final selection process works after one has Pro Rec Y status?

I was previously selected by an Air Force board (decided to switch branches) and their final selection results are released all at once while the Navy selects seem to trickle in over a period of time.

This is terrifying. I graduate next Friday, and put all my eggs in one basket for SWO. From these posts, it looks like I am never going to be able to be in the Navy.

Be glad you're 21 and not an old guy. Plus, if I had to put my eggs in one basket, you're best off with SWO if your goal is to get accepted.

If you are going to be in the USN you need to be flexible and expect to get the short end of the stick occasionally, a SWO friend of mine had their orders changed just a few weeks she was supposed to transfer, instead of staying in the same geographical location of the previous duty station and being co located with the spouse was sent essentially across the country.

other things I have seen officers deal with, leave cancelled last minute affecting vacation and costing money in plane tickets, having to deal with Dept heads that have a "you will be here when I arrive and can leave after I do" attitude, and other crappy stuff.

If you can't take stress like this you might want to re-think this career path, not trying to be mean, just telling it like it is.

Putting all your eggs in one basket is not the best strategy when managing your finances, or your life.

On another note; am I really the only Select from the June Supply Board, on Airwarriors, that still hasn't received as much as a tentative report date?

I think so we are all dispersed between the December to February classes from what I've seen but most of us are in the January class
