Oh yes, I'm familiar with all of the ins and outs. I've been on this forum wayyy too long not to have picked up on the information. I've got the PRT standards actually on my fridge at home ? .

I just wondered if anyone has any input on their methods of "forcing" workouts into crazy schedules as you put it. I have viewed and saved all of NavyDave's videos. I was super grateful when I saw him create that thread.

Right now, when I'm not on call or being called out during my regular shift, there's a relatively normal schedule I can fall into but it gets crazy in my county. For example, we had 3 major cases within a single month and I got countless hours of OT. I just wonder how people that may have similar craziness going on with their current career manage their workouts.

The only advice I can give is when you're crazy busy you have to make time for the gym. If you don't plan a time specifically designated for workout time then you won't have it. It's not easy, and probably not what you'd like to hear, but it's the truth.

Nice, I figured you knew all that but I figured it didn't hurt to be sure. My solution has been the sacrifice of sleep. I'm an early riser: At times I have to clock in at 0600, work all day, then go to straight to my night classes until 2200, so I'll get up around 0300-0400 and do my routine before work. Certainly not ideal, but not much different from how I got workouts into my equally busy schedule as an enlisted Sailor.

I'll have to buy some bear spray to run with, javalina have shown up rabid around here (Oh, joy!) and attacking people because they're aggressive jerks to begin with. So if I'm caught home after dark, I'll still be able to run. Thank you guys for your help! I may start rising an hour earlier than normal at 4 so I can get a run in then, too. ?

I currently work 10-12 hrs a day 5 days a week. I just have to suck it up and go to the gym when I get home. I don’t spend the 1.5-2 hours others have the luxury of spending, but you can definitely do high intensity for 30-45 minutes and get a sufficient workout. OCS demands long hours everyday, so I figured I better get use to the demanding schedule anyways.

I try to avoid the gym unless I'm doing weights, because I've been told that aside from the testing, we're smoked and running outside most of the time. And I have the benefit of living at over 5,000 ft above sea level so I've got an effortless (hah!!) training mask to condition with.

I thought I'd post this here to help anyone. Auditory retention is shown to be a pretty wonderful way of studying so I recorded the entirety (with the exception of COC for obvious reasons) of Appendix B a year ago and posted it online.

If you have any feedback or want me to record anything else to add, let me know.
This is very helpful and thoughtful! Thank you! I also find it effective to write down appendix b as well (e.g. flashcards). Don’t forget about utilizing kinesthetics or “muscle memory”!

Definitely! I've got a 30 minute drive to and from work so I play the entire playlist each time haha. I write it down and quiz myself when I'm at home!

Out of curiosity, for those still in FINSEL purgatory, when is/what was everyone's availability date for OCS? Was it immediate after selection or did you have obligations that had it a few months out instead?
