Mike, Thanks! I don't know who's going to swear me in. I'm in Phoenix at the moment for an internship, so I may have to get a "courtesy swear in". Although, I do have a very good friend who is a 2nd Lt in the Air Force.

Anyone have any idea what the rules/traditions of the swear in are?

Hey, congrats Scott. I just bought a study guide for the ASTB and started working. Makes FAA writtens look fun. It seems like there are plenty of UND people around. Mike I think I know you. I believe you registered me last summer for 102 with a launch at 7:30am. Getting up before 6:00am in Grand Forks is hell.

HAHA...Yeah that was me. Sorry Tom, sometimes it just works out that way. Just remember, your flight instructors don't like getting up that early either. Skip the study guide for the ASTB and search on here for the gouge. The books that my roomate and I bought were pretty much worthless, but the gouge on here is very good, at least it was for the older test. If you have any questions along the way let me know.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport - I work in the aviation admin offices. Pretty interesting stuff...there have been car chases on the taxiways, police shootouts, and broken sewer pipes while I'll been here!

Tom, Mike's right about the book. The only useful stuff in it is the spatial apperception stuff. Otherwise, use the gouge here on AW.

I took the ASTB and didn't pass it twice. The first time I didn't study and got a 5/5/6, good enough for NFO but not pilot. Then I studied some aviation and nautical terms and got a 6/5/7, same outcome. I studied a lot more the last time and got a 8/8/8. These both helped some...

I was talking to my OSO about ground or air. I am still torn on which to pick. He told me that they give air contracts at OCS. Does anyone know if this is true?

Assuming you're talking about the Marines, yes, it's true that the Corps guarantees av contracts. In fact, I believe it's altogether a different OCS you'll be sent to (AOCS, 'A' for Aviation). This is a distinct advantage offered by USMC O Programs.
