Went out agency wide and then followed by a passive aggressive email from high up the chain saying yes that was a real email despite it looking like a phishing attempt.
As opposed to the overtly aggressive policy memo sent out today on telework. Got it, telework bad... you don't have to scold the entire workforce to announce the policy change. Really sets a shitty tone for the next four years.

Saw that NAVADMIN and wondering what uniform wearing types were still teleworking To begin with? And how do I get that job?

Only person I can think of is a dude I knew when I was in Misawa who then moved to do INSURV. The gist of what he told me was that he could basically live anywhere he wanted CONUS because he was underway so much at basically every home port it truly didn’t matter where he lived when not underway.

I know of one who was supposedly the Navy’s first remote work test case. In this particular case, they fill an admin role and are actually really effective, plus do a decent amount of TDY. They stayed at their old duty station for family stability.

No way could the Navy have filled this position with anyone nearly as qualified if that person was required to live where the command is headquartered.

the most frustrating part with all this is that not one single unit seems to have let their people know about this passkey requirement when it came out, except for the reserves.

Not a single email or anything from ADP or the ITs was sent out. Or, a navadmin all hands type memo either. Now every one is playing catch up.
My NRC put out the word in December and made us all get the passkey set up which was good. The bad news is that the process they put out for doing it didn't seem to work for anybody. Many had issues getting certain checkpoints completed and others who "successfully" completed the checklist found out after the switchover on Jan 8th that their passkeys didn't work. I was in the latter camp and still had to wait on hold with NESD for 90 minutes to fix it.

I know many uniformed members who telework at warfare centers (NSWC, NUWC, NIWC, etc.) and even did it myself. I also know many civilians at those warfare centers with critical skillsets who will go look for new jobs if they take away telework. This whole blanket RTO policy is going to be very disruptive and seems one of the sillier policies to pursue.

DAF is moving aggressively with a pilot for Bring-Your-Own Device , as a budget saving and productivity boost - getting people to give up a dedicated "work phone" - full NIPR access on your own device. The Air Force definitely "get it" when it comes to access and tech. See the link below

Sounds great until you realize these programs usually come with absurd security settings in your personal cell phone.

On the other hand, I think the Army recently removed access to Office 365 unless you're on an Army network.

I tried using O365 on my phone. It made me download Microsoft Edge (who knew it exists for iOS!), which I was sort of ok with; once I loaded https://portal.apps.mil it asked me to download Microsoft Defender which was a bridge too far. Thanks but no thanks.

Say military is exempt, unsure if that's DoD wide including civilians. Also some jobs are fully remote when created vs office with telework. Will be interesting to see this play out.
More likely excluded, we'd have way too many lower enlisted hopping on that to be practical, especially since we actively need more.

Government civilians only, Executive branch-wide. Remote and telework cancelled pending justification process. Suspect it will be a high bar for those not under Reasonable Accommodation for disability. Some collective bargaining agreements include remote work stipulations. This will probably end up in the courts on those.
