FY10 STA-21 Applicants gather round!

How was the alternate process, what did you have to do? How many alternates are picked up, is there a trend over the last few years or is it random?

You were picked as an alt with no warfare? Wow that's awesome, you must have had some smokin' evals or something or maybe they don't care much. I am dual warfare qual'd so hopefully that counts for something.

I've got MP's, sw/aw, lots of collateral duties and 8-10's on three boards (our command, other command and CO) and I was ranked first out of the people I applied with on the ship. I also have like 27 credits plus what ODU said they'd give me for nuke pipeline (about 40 I think it was, I basically had like 60 hours left for a MET w/ nuke option) and I'm ridiculously good looking... jk. Two letters of rec from 2 LT's in RX on the IKE...

I thought BOOST was no longer part of the pipeline.

I don't remember the exact number of alternates selected but if you look at last years selectee NAVADMIN they are at the bottom.

It is basically the same process except you may never actually go. Alternates still submit the physical and acceptance letters. It took me forever because I was in Iraq at the time. Alternates are picked up depending on who gets their paperwork in first.

I am not sure what the board liked in my package. I was a BM3 at the time with no experience outside the riverines. I would assume it was the unique schools such as USMC common core. Also good evals and board write ups. You seem to be more qualified and the can look at more of a history for you than they could have for me.

That's unfortunate... why did they stop BOOST?

I'm sure it was a money issue, that always seems to be the case. In FY06, they told us it was the last year of BOOST. Bummer, it was a good program. I betcha Mr. Prassl is still in his office "squaring puppies" and "shoo-tow"ing secants. (Boost grads will get it.)

Does anything done at NSI count for credit? Probably depends on the school I'm assuming?

You take the classes (and get the credits) that the normal midshipmen HAVE to take. And if you want to get a Military Leadership minor it only takes two additional classes when you get to your college (at least at ODU).

Since everyone is being so helpful: I'm checking the results for my boyfriend while he is out on patrol. I didn't think to ask him though what needs to happen if he is on the alternates list (guess I was trying to be optimistic). If he is on that list, do I still need to turn in his paperwork to the appropriate places or is there another step I need to be aware of? Thanks for the information and thanks for making today a little less depressing with all the sarcastic posts.

And another question I remembered....

Does being in an undermanned rate hurt your chances? I'm a nuke ET and I know atleast on carriers were quite undermanned. Anyone know if they take this into account when selecting OC's?

While everyone is asking what does and doesn't work, I'm old and if I wanna fly, I need an age waiver. Does anyone know if that hurts my chances?

What really sucks is that all you guys are watching this crap instead of working. Everyone here thinks they're gonna get picked up and are blowing off their real jobs posting useless crap on here. Now, if you don't get selected, you are gonna have 22+ days worth of work to catch up on :D

No shit.

Not to mention that apparently I'm one of the few people who applied that actually works for a living. At least I know the rest of the Nukes, minus the qualified student, are in the same boat.

You guys are doing a great job pushing that post count though. It's awesome to get home at 5:30 and see more than 100 new posts on the thread and get excited that maybe the results came out. Then skim through 5 pages of garbage, missing what are probably a few pieces of good info because you don't want to read all the stupid shit.

Keep up the good work guys!

Did you route a 1306 and ask for a conditional release? I'm in the same boat as you, but I decided I'd rather beg for forgiveness than ask for permission. I've been a nuke for a few years and seen several people picked up for non-nuclear officer programs and subsequently told they can't go by 08, but never for the STA-21 program. How long have you been on the Ike?

I had no idea you had to do anything of the sort... Never heard of a 1306... I've been on the IKE for 2.5 years now... almost qualified RT.

I could send you an e-mail on the nnpp web when the results come out if you're on day shift. Just give me your e-mail and I'll let you know. I don't really remember what access prototype guys have to NMCI or nnpp networks .

You will when you try to x-fer. It's basically a generic request that gets sent off the ship. I had to do one to screen for instructor duty before I left in 2006.
