I hate to be a downer, but in my boredom I started to break out the DOD FY12 budget (H.R 1540). I compared the Navy's requested Officer aquisition budget with the approved amount and found out that they got what they wanted....They actually got more. I got happy and figured the numbers wouldnt go down this year, but after digging deeper I found out that all the extra money is going towards the Naval Academy and they were reducing the STA-21 program...here's an excerpt from the actual budget plan:

iii) Efficiency - Decrease in Seamen to Admiral program by 70 students per year and also reduces associated support costs.

(Baseline $6,468) *amount in thousands

Here's the reference if anyone wants to see for themselves, the budget was what they requested at the time. But that specific line item got approved by congress for the requested amount.

If I can remember correctly, this has actually already been stated at the beginning of this thread.. The budget calls for 150 slot, vs. last years 220. There is your 70 student decrease. So 150 would actually be good news for this FY.

Yeah, but last year they had 220 slots and only selected 115 people....What are they gonna do with only 150 authorized slots??? Trust me, I am praying that your right!

Ok so I've been scouting the thread and figured since we are all worried about something we have no control over I would acknowledge, admit and join into the insanity ... Good luck to all.

Arizona State is at $9,208 for resident tuition but engineering programs have a $300.00/semester fee for freshman and sophomores.

Any 1830 applicants out there??

Before VADM Dorsett retired and VADM Card took over as DNI and head of the IDC, they put out that the intel officer quotas would be significantly reduced in the next five years, not just at the STA-21 level but navy wide. I've been talking to my Intel O's, and they all agree that the 1830 designator is shifting to support ground units and carrier operations. Not looking good for us enlisted folk switching to the officer ranks as Intel...

Are you already an IS or are you going for Intel because of the high age factor?

Do any of the colleges you guys are applying for have a total cost of tuition under $10,000?

All three of the schools I put down on the application are showing a tuition for a full load, as it prescribes in the STA-21 instruction, under $10,000. Old Dominion, Texas A&M, and SDSU. But who really wants to be Aggie, they're like the unwanted, all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world...

who's winning the OU-UT game this weekend? I have to go with UT. BLEED BURNT ORANGE BABY!!

Is it wierd that the biggest reason I didn't want to apply before I get accepted is because I didn't want to jinx myself?

Nope, I actually started my applications and then stopped for that very reason. As soon as I see results (if I make it, don't wanna jinx myself there either) I'm sending in those applications and making those phone calls.

My husband hasn't applied anywhere either...he doesn't know what to get his degree in so he couldn't choose a school yet. His degree depends on what he gets picked up for either Med Corp or CORE, if any at all.
