So I feel a little behind the curve.

I believe I have a very strong package this year. This is only my 2nd submission. I have prepared my package for the previous 3 years but there were some issues on the first package so it didn't get sent off and the second package I pulled due to some extenuating circumstances.

Either way, I just completed my application to ODU but I already have a signed and approved degree plan, I just need to complete the entire process for acceptance. I really want to go to Northwestern University. I see it on the approved NROTC schools list but did not list it as one of my schools, not sure if it was one of them on the drop-down list. I did list University of Illinois and the University of Texas though. I am from San Antonio, TX so Austin would definitely put me closer to mine and my wife's families.

Anyone have any advice? I am thinking of applying to University of Texas and even Texas A&M. I see someone actually applied and got accepted already. What did you do for this to happen? I'd like to make the process as easy as possible and avoid any additional delays?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Steve,

You must go to www.applytexas.org/ to submit an application for Texas A&M or UT. This is the only medium that they use to accept applications. They both require two essays, an official college transcript from all colleges you have attended, your HS transcript, and proof you have had a bacterial menegitis vaccination in the past 5 years. Once they have recieved all of you documents your application status will say that it will be reviewed before the deadline. I just gave the school a call and asked for an early admission decision because I was applying for STA-21 and they jumped right on it. I was very suprised how easy it was to get them to work on my stuff right away. I got a phone call yesterday afternoon from the military liason, and she notified me that I have been accepted and that she will be working on my degree plan. If you need any other help just send me a PM. I have heard from some of the previous selectees that it doesnt matter if you didnt put one of these schools down on your list as long as you are accepted to one of the approved universities and have a three year degree plan you should be good to go.

Has anyone done an IA here? I remember when a warfare pin used to set you apart, but now it's looking like a lot of 1st's going for CPO are putting an IA under their belt to give them the edge. Think that will help out here?

I can not say for sure whether an IA helps or not, but it seems this program is more focused on leadership abilities. If doing the IA puts more leadership experience under your belt, and you can show it in your package, then yes it should help. This program looks at everything about you. The "whole person" concept.

I have seen several PO1's do that in an attempt to give them an edge, I will tell you what I have seen and it may give you a perspective on how it is viewed for STA21. A PO1 that does an IA that has been a "P" sailor is still a "P" sailor, I have seen several PO1's make CPO that did IA's but to be honest these were guys were figured would make CPO anyway, they were the MP or EP guys that would take charge, now doing that IA may have helped them make CPO a bit earlier but who knows. I know several CPO's that have done IA's that have yet to make SCPO, and they are the MP/EP CPO's.

In the case of the PO1's that made it, they were great at leading people.

I guess we can say we can start the great build of anticipation. I am doing fine with the waiting. When OCT hits, then I will start wondering about when the results are gonna come out. I found out that I am only 17 classes from my BS. I am excited to finish it. Hopefully it will be with this program. Either way I am pressing on. I used all my TA for the year and need the new FY to hit.

Might I suggest CLEP and DSST test to try and cover any classes you have? You would be surprised at the variety of courses you can test out of, heck it might even be possible to get a degree purely from CLEP and DSST tests.... At least check it out, that way you're not waiting for the FY or paying out of your G.I. Bill.

Well I am taking college classes now, and I know that I can't CLEP the rest of them. I have already taken quite a few CLEP in my day. Those darn transcripts are expensive.

OK A_Longo88 FIFY, say after me, "football teams can lose" and "one-arm bandits can be loose"... got it? Now you get a pass this time, 'cause you're gonna get selected and go to a great Univ., study some, drink beer, chase chicks, and hopefully... get your Bachelors. When you come back all smart, well educated & commissioned, you'll be expected to write, punctuate, spell etc., professionally. After all, you don't want to give us ol' "priors" a bad name, right?;)

Good luck in the selection process!:)
