Personally, I'd probably hold off on even wearing the thing until at least I was deployed and actually doing something, but that's me.

my husband's command requires everyone who's eligible (served 30 days in the fleet) to wear it; there's not a choice of whether or not you feel you've earned it.

I know most of the junior Marines in my squadron wore it at the ball, because this was considered their "official" final MOS...

Ok...to kill this one off and play S-1: "MARINES IN INITIAL ACCESSION TRAINING OR FOLLOW-ON MOS TRAINING DO NOT QUALIFY FOR THE GWOTSM UNDER THIS AUTHORITY (E.G., RECRUITS, OFFICER CANDIDATES, STUDENTS AT THE SCHOOL OF INFANTRY OR THE BASIC SCHOOL, STUDENT NAVAL AVIATORS, ETC). ELIGIBILITY BEGINS ONCE A MARINE IS ASSIGNED TO HIS/HER FIRST UNIT SUBSEQUENT TO ALL INITIAL TRAINING."

NO MARINE WILL QUALIFY FOR THIS AWARD SIMPLY BY BEING ON ACTIVE DUTY ON OR AFTER 11 SEP 01. MARINES MUST MEET THE CRITERIA OUTLINED IN THIS MARADMIN, AND BE APPROVED FOR THE AWARD. MARINES MUST BE ASSIGNED, ATTACHED, OR MOBILIZED, IN CONUS OR OVERSEAS, TO A UNIT PARTICIPATING IN OR IN SUPPORT OF (INCLUDING INDIRECT SUPPORT) APPROVED OPERATIONS..." and so on.

Whatever the Navy says somebody else can finalize and help anybody else who sees this thread know if they qualify. It's obviously something people wonder about, so at least this takes care of the fellow Marines. Didn't want to throw dirt onto any award, especially one so colorful and able to coordinate with other uniform pieces. And that's my 18 cents.

And I find it funny that they would have that much time on their hands to enforce it. Not disagreeing w/ you, bennett, just making an observation. I think I wore a uniform that had ribbons or other on it about once every six months, so makes it even more of a moot point if you're so lucky.

The message goes on and on, but you get the idea from this.

Basically, if you rate it, wear it. Otherwise don't be a douchebag - it'll be pretty obvious to everyone if you're being legit.

'Nuff said, ok?

he's still wearing khakis, so it's pretty easy for them to notice when he's not wearing it. and the guy whose collateral duty is making sure uniforms are worn properly (whatever that's called) actually called him out on it everyday until he got it.

In the Marine Corps, ribbons are optional on Charlies. If it's the same sailorland, just don't wear any. That'd probably piss off the hall monitor even more.

Not optional. Service khaki (short sleeve most everyone is familiar with), your top three and warfare pins are req'd as a minimum. If it's in your top three, you're wearing it. Only working khaki (usually shipboard) is pins only.

Sorry, but there's no way that kind of thing is enforced. Nobody cares about stuff like that. While I'm at it, what do you mean he's "still" wearing Khakis? That's what he "should" always be wearing. If spies wanted to be able to wear flightsuits, they should have been aviators. (AW Smiles all around:) )

Brett

Edit: There is no such "hall monitor" collateral duty in that squadron and I can't imagine such an occurance. They're probably just hazing him.

"Hey is that the 'Alternative lifestyle' ribbon?" Get's 'em all the time :D .

As far as the GWOTEM goes, even if you don't go to the sandbox you can still rate it if your orders say anything about "..in support of the GWOT" and so forth.
