Glock 22

Im thinking of getting a handgun to work on my marksmanship and to have some fun and thought the Glock 22 was a decent gun. Can anyone deny or agree with this? If not, what semi auto handgun would you recommend?

Combating TIP training AGAIN?!
I'll put in a plug for the Sig Sauer P226. I have one and love it. Zero malfunctions with all types of ammo. The 17 round mags are pretty sweet too.

Glock 22 is my service weapon. Like it for lots of reasons. Same trigger pull every time and the trigger reset is nice. Simple gun. Then again you don't want a lot of crap to fool with when the stuff hits the fan. I've never had mine misfire.
Sig is fine weapon as well. That P220 is nice! But in reference to the 22, I have nothing but positve things to say about mine.

I've never been a big fan of Glocks, they are good weapons (obviously), just never had a desire to own one. What I would recommend is an H&K, I absolutely love every gun in their line. Little bit more costly but worth it in my opinion, they all handle great and shoot even better. To avoid too much of a crank comparison, PM for more details if you want.

I own a Glock 23, which I love. Now, if I had the money I would get a Kimber of some sorts. However, the glock is tough, easy to clean, looks badass, and is a great gun, I have never had a misfire as well, even with being lax on the cleaning. My only complaint about Glocks is how light they are, now for a cop or someone who is going to carry a gun all day, that makes sense, but I like the weight of a heavier gun, I feel it allows my shots to be more accurate, with all that said, if you do get a Glock, spend the extra few bucks, get a plug for the space behind the magazine well, a 3.5 pound connector and an extended slide release. Just did the latter two and it makes the trigger pull that much nicer, I don't feel that little catch right at the end of the pull, and well the extended slide release is just nice. My .02.

I think with such a broad question like that, you're going to get really varied responses. Its kind of like the threads on here about what boots people prefer. I'm currently going through the buying the first pistol phase right now as well. Something might look really sweet in the picture or in the specs, but it just isnt for you when you shoot it. Best thing I would reccommend is to see if you can rent a few at any nearby ranges. It will give you a chance to try before you buy.

I'm not partial to Glocks ... don't like the "spongy" trigger nor the grip .... nor the mag release (I changed mine) nor the slide lock (changed mine) ..... I've had 3-4 and still have one (a -19) ... BUT:

Glock 22 Our Pick Over Five Other .40 S&W Defense Pistols

It's a 9 year old comparison of five .40 pistols from GunTests.com, but it will still give you some valuable insight ... some models have changed slightly (an H&K USPC .40 is now available and was not tested -- that would be my choice amongst the 5 -- they tested a "left hand" version, so the "fix" was in .... and I'm kina partial to the Walther .40 as well ... ) but there you go ..... :)

Airborne All the Way!!!
I am considering purchasing the .357 Sig Sauer P226 which is the standard issue for the Texas Rangers. I figure if it's good enough for the Rangers then it's good enough for me. :D

I have a Glock 22 and love it. The only drawback is the .40 is a bit more expensive to shoot than the 9mm ($20 vs. $15 per 100 rounds at Wal-Mart). Also, if you're looking to carry concealed, you might want to look at the 23 or the 19. Go to http://www.glocktalk.com . You'll find more than enough information there.

But you gotta remember .... the lead character in "24" (I refuse to say the name and go down that road) used a SIG for a season or two ... then wised up and switched to an H&K .... he doesn't use GLOCKs .... only the bad guys do .... :) .... THAT alone should tell you SOMETHING.

And besides ... Will Rogers never met a man who used a GLOCK. (something for the older folks ... if you don't get it -- don't ask ;))

I rest my case ..... :D

Glad to see someone else doesn't like Glocks, for pretty much the same reasons I don't. Not a popular opinion where I grew up.

Oh yeah, don't get me started on what an awesome cartridge the .357 Sig is. Essentially a .357 magnum in an autoloader version. Love it. :D

I would recommend a Glock 23 if you want the .40 cal round for stopping power. It's smaller than a 22 and conceals a little easier. 23 is same size as a Glock 19. Good comparison here: http://glockfaq.com/guide.htm

or go real small....

Of course that's probably Andre the Giant's hand...

I love it when they cock a Glock on a TV show and you hear it sound like a revolver.

It all comes down to rounds on target = practice.

Check out the XD-40. I went looking for a 22, and came away with the XD. Never had any issue ever. Pretty much same idea as a Glock...

Ill agree with the XD. Has the extra saftey feature of the grip saftey and chambered round indicator. The sub compact is fairly easy to conceal and I have never had a misfire that was related to the gun. ( had a federal round blow up on me but that wasnt the gun). Some people dont like the extra take up in the trigger but i love mine and they are fairly priced.
