Has anyone fired the Glock 37? Is there any difference between the .45 ACP round and the .45 GAP when firing? How is the selection in buying .45 GAP ammunition?

No experience with the Glock 37...however, in regards to your ammunition question...If you have to ask it isn't good. Why not just go with the Glock 21? They are both standard sized pistols and .45 ACP has, and will be around forever...fairly cheaply.

I looked at the 45gap when it first came out and shot it next to a 45 acp. Wasn't very much noticable difference between the two but I went with the ACP out of concern that if the "gap" round didn't catch on it might not stay in production.

Also I now carry the XD in 45 acp holds 13+1 and in gap would only get you 1 extra round so overall not worth the novelty IMO.

No the guns that I looked at at the time cannot interchanges the rounds. (In case you were going to ask)

Hope this helps you

Go over to the GlockTalk forum and do some searches. This topic has been covered extensively there as well. That forum is a great resource for all things Glock.

That said, I'd go w/ the 21. It's definetly a proven pistol and they have a new version, the 21SF (short frame) out there now. It supposed to be for folks w/ smaller hands.

I would not try to fire anything other than .45 GAP in a pistol made for .45 GAP.

.45 Glock Automatic Pistol (GAP)
In 2003 a joint development program by Glock and Speer resulted in a new cartridge - the 45 Glock Automatic Pistol (GAP). The cartridge was designed by GLOCK to be used in the medium frame sized GLOCK 37 semi-automatic pistol. It is based on the .45 ACP pistol cartridge, but is shorter; the same overall length as a 9 mm Luger or .40 S&W. The .45 GAP operates at a higher pressure than the .45 ACP to make up for the smaller chamber volume. It was first believed that the traditional .45 ACP loading of a 230-grain bullet at 830 ft/s would not be possible in the .45 GAP, but careful gunpowder selection on the part of ammunition manufacturers has realized that standard. Typical bullet weights now range from 185 to 230 grains.

.45 Automatic Colt Pistol (ACP)
This cartridge was developed by John Browning in 1905 and adopted by the United States Ordnance Department, along with the Colt-Browning automatic pistol, in 1911. It has also been made the official military handgun chambering by several other governments, notably Argentina, Mexico and Norway. The 45 Automatic is the most powerful military handgun cartridge in use today. This is a heavy and powerful sub-sonic round with bullet weights from 185 to 260 grains. Although its muzzle energy can exceed 400 ft-lbs, its velocity and bullet weight creates a steep trajectory curve that limits its effective range to self-defense distances.

It's fun to try new cartridges and new pistols -- but remember, gun writers have to find something "new" to write about or they retire early -- and not in the style they would like to become accustomed to ... :)

I almost suckered in on the .45 GAP a couple of years ago -- there's a thread somewhere on here about it -- and there will always be other cartridges for lots of special purposes .... but "if you could only have one ... one that will always do the job " .... stick with the one that 'brung ya -- old reliable. ;)

From what I hear, its a decent round. But I'd be concerned about future availability of factory ammo.

I'll stick with 1911's in .45 ACP.

I got a chance to shoot one a few weeks back and like they said above there really isn't that much difference. The guy that owned it swore it was the next great invention but i really couldn't tell the different. I agree with the above if your going to get a .45 get the ACP.

Thanks for all the feedback. Future availability of the round was one of my main concerns with the GAP. The Glock 21 is a little bulky IMO; what I'm going to do is rent a Glock 22 and Glock 21 from my local range and fire 50-100 rounds through each and see which is preferable. I'm already leaning towards the 21 buy if the 22 wows me maybe I'll go that route.

As far as "bulky" goes, the 21 is not much larger than the 22. You can also get the 21 in a new Slim Frame version. Haven't seen any at the local gun stores yet, but they exist. They have a small grip to benefit those of us w/ smaller hands. The 21 is a bit to large for me, but I'll consider the 21SF seriously if I can find one. The 22 is an outstanding platform and sits very well in the hand.
