Good bank while in Service

I opened an account with BoA, on 26 OCT. I got my debit card on 28 NOV after a LOT of ass-ache. Got a credit card on same date. Showed up 14 DEC, after 3-4 phone calls.

That, and they made a Cashiers Check from NFCU hold for 10 days before funds were made available.

While the lines have been shorter than NFCU, the service from BoA has sucked. Local people in the branch are nice, but their corporate policies blow ass.

I only switched to get my money away from the ex ASAP. Will be switching back at some point in the future.

Yeah they ended up losing one of my G.I. Bill Checks that I had deposited... Apparently they had the check but "couldn't verify that it was mine" ... I told them that my name and address were on the check ;) Horrible.

NFCU holds my mortgage -- their Vet's Choice Loan is hard to beat.

USAA for everything else (checking, insurance, mutual funds, etc..)

ING for savings (nice site, good rates, no mins)

F-ck BoA... for the same reasons Harrier Dude posted. Based on the way they deal with the GTC, there is no way I'd bank with them if I had the choice. Of course the bank my CC was through got bought out by them, so I'm in the process of moving it to USAA. :)

I've been with NFCU since 1981 as a checking and savings bank.

I pay all my insurance bills and do investments with USAA, member since 1983.

I'd say it's a toss up. BUt would probably go with USAA if I had to do it all over again due to the ATM fee rebates.

I use USAA and ING. Love both of them.

seconded. ING keeps bumping up the APR on their accounts un-solicited and USAA gave me my precommissioning loan for 25K FIXED at 2%. They might as well have give me the money for free. Great to walk into a dealership, write a check, and walk out with the car you want.:D

Well, they did so to catch up to Citibank's 5% on their e-savings account. HSBC (for anyone who's keeping track), has a 5.05% right now, though my dad tells me interest rates are plateauing.

Yes but ING is very user-friendly. I think my dad tried to open citibank, but then found out it's a b!tch to open, or there's some sort of catch or conditions that apply. Whatever, I'm happy with ING

USAA has great rates on car insurance, just switched over. I also bank with USAA and opted for their 25k new Lt. starter loan.

Hmmmm??? What to buy first????

BofA is the devil. I sh*t canned their ass a long time ago because of their fees and poor customer service. Stay away from them.

I agree with Harrier Dude.... BoA sucks ass, and you should stay as far away from them as possible. Just my two cents.
Wow, just reading through the posts and trying to figure out what, if anything to add.....until I came across this comment. I could not disagree more with Webmaster. Not to worry though. He's in Hawaii and the air is thinner there.

I maintain a bank account at Navy Fed and BoA and keep my insurance (and sometimes even a loan) through USAA. I used to not like BoA (been a customer since high school...circa 1990) but over the last few years, they've really turned their sh!t around. Their website and bill pay system is phenominal (and free). Their checking is free with direct deposit. They've drastically improved their customer service, both inside the branch and over the phone.

All in all, this is what I do:
BoA for banking
USAA for insurance (auto, home owners, etc., and sometimes a loan
NFCU for all other loans
Scottrade for brokerage and IRA accounts

They are the evil dark-hearted b@stards who own the government travel cards and should all burn in hell.

Then again, I may be just a tad biased by my experiences with them in that regard.
You need to blame whatever Supply assh0le set that up, not
BoA.

I am glad BoA is working for someone. As I have gotten older (and grayer), I put a premium on customer service (in restaurants, bars, and women :D).... BoA was horrible with their customer service, granted, my exposure was through the GCC program. But, I have done way too much travelling over the last 7 years, and BoA fell short big time. When it comes to my money or credit rating, and I am half way around the world with a snafu, I don't want to fight the bank to make things right.

USAA and American Express haven't ever let me down while on the road. And when it boils down to it, you gotta pick what YOU like best, not what some other shit head (read SWO, jk) on any forum tells ya.

And LeLewi, its not the thin air, that would be Denver or Mexico City or something.... its the CLEAN air and pleasant weather here in Paradise, don't you recall that from on the boat when you visited Kbay last time? :D

Yes, BoA is not very user friendly when it comes to the government travel card program. In fact, shall I say, they are rather a royal pain in the ass. When I was XO at the reserve center in Bangor, that single program took up far too much of my time trying to unfvck reservists problems with the program. It became such an issue that the CO and I were advising reservists NOT to get the travel card and to use their own personal credit card instead.

Yes, there's a big ass "but" in all this.....BUT what you have to realize is that the individual servicemember was NEVER the customer. The customer was the government...ultimately. Right or wrong, call it what you wish, but that's the way it is.

The USAA Deposit@Home feature is awesome. If you have a scanner, an internet connection, and a check you want to deposit, it's a simple manner of using their web interface to scan the check in and you instantly have your money in the account.

The only b!tch I have about USAA is there is no way to deposit cash into the account.
