No doubt another misinformed dreamer who thinks Intel Os are like James Bond. ;) Truth be told, one of my former Spies went to a HUMINT operation for his second tour, but he spoke fluent Russian, although I don't know how many Soviets we're interrogating these days.

Brett

Some HUMINT types actually do get to do very cool stuff, but getting to that point is usually not easy and you get to be a target too, one of the guys I know got a Purple Heart for his troubles. It is also not something you get right out of Intel school, or ppt school for the unwashed ;) , so no Bond stuff right away. You have to be a whipping boy first.......

P.S. They turned a bunch of Russian linguists into Serbo-Croat linguists in the 90's to cover the former Yugo area. They called them turbo-Serbo's......intel humor is not known for being funny...... He might be seeing the beautiful Balkans here soon......

Good Start!

Its going to take me awhile to get into the type of shape needed to produce a stellar performance on the pullup and run portion of the prt. On my last pfa (navy) I did 87 pushups, 106 sit ups and ran my mile in a half in 10:01. Pull ups are not my strong suit as my current max is 15, and I know I'm going to have to improve my run as a 20:02 3 mile would not cut it. I'll give myself four months of training to prepare.
That's a good start though. If you keep on working at it, you'll only get better.

Call that OSO now!

I know you can select MOS 0204, Human Source Intelligence Officer, out of TBS so this might be some bad gouge. There was one slot for it in my company. My understanding was that it had more with interrogating people but I'm sure they do all sorts of crazy stuff they can't talk about.

I have a cousin who does that kind of work in the Army, but again, language skillz are involved.

HUMINT is the MOS I would put first if I don't end up trying to do the pilot thing. I was planning on submitting a lat move package to CI if MECEP didn't come through.

On the E side they get to do some pretty cool stuff. Met an E-7 in a foreign Western Asian country where President Bush happened to be at the same time, who was wandering around in civvies and a beard.

According to him you could pretty much write your own ticket as far as special schools were concerned.

He reenlisted in a tax-free zone with a multiple of 4 or 5 or some unGodly number made a crap-ton of cash too.

Well, I have little experience with the Marines in Intel, especially HUMINT ones, so you are probably right. The other services usually leave it for guys who have a few years in.

You are right about interrogating/debriefing people though, that is one of the more mundane things they do and it is still HUMINT. I was thinking more along the lines of deploying and actually doing field work in a combat zone, the psuedo-Bond stuff, they generally leave that for people with at least a few years in.

There was a Marine CWO doing CI where I worked last and he had some interesting stories about what he had done overseas, including Iraq. Unlike most grizzled CWO's I have met he was on the young side of his 30's and still had a full head of hair. He had jsut gotten back from leading a team in Iraq.

Unfortunately he did not know if he was going to be able to deploy again, his hearing had been damaged when a car bomb went off next to his Hummvee.
