Where do helo selections split off?
I guess reading and comprehension aren’t your strong suit?
That’s the standard answer…he was being funny.

Serious answer is that it depends on the needs of the Navy and it varies week by week and month by month. Through the NFO syllabus, you have multiple selections:

so, with all that said, write down “Strike-Fighter” on your dream sheet and do your best in flight training. Good luck.

normally I’d say talking about Growlers is TMI but since you insist this thread is about them…
A good Growler before my morning shower is golden and the right path to start the day.
Interesting juxtaposition of shower and golden in the same sentence.

Sorry cowgirl, we are all pretty much just messing with you, but I note your earnestness :)

Study hard, learn from your mistakes in the airplane, keep a good attitude, and you'll make it through. The aircraft you ultimately select in that process could be a result of all those things, or it could be purely timing. Could be what you want, or it could be something else. Most important thing is that you get those wings and move on. Coming out of Meridian, I asked for Prowlers and got Hornets. Turned out just fine. Growlers are a great goal, but nobody can predict how things will pan out for you, nor offer you actionable advice beyond just giving it your best. There is no cheat code, and there is no magic NSS that will get you there. It's become a joke around here, but there is also no % that get a particular airframe. One week everyone might, the next week none. Keep plugging away and I (almost) promise you that you will be happy where you end up. But keep shooting for Growlers. It's way better up here than the rest of the Navy has any idea of......shhhhhhhhhhhhh

Growler question inspired by reading the Prowler FRS thread, how exactly does the FRS for the Growler work if there's only 2 seats and the pilot and EWO have completely different jobs? In the Prowler there were 4 seats so you can move around instructors, students, pilots, EWOs, whatever, but how exactly is a pilot supposed to train an EWO, especially if he can't even see the EWO's displays? I know the same issue exists in the F/A-18F but I imagine it's not as bad since the pilot and WSO are more or less doing the same thing while the difference in roles between a pilot is EWO is much larger.

It's actually fairly simple. If you're a student pilot, you fly with an instructor EWO (except for your first flight, then you fly with an instructor pilot in a dual-controlled configuration). If you're a student EWO, you fly with an instructor pilot.

Many of the displays are shared between cockpits so you can see what the other person is working on. For Instructor EWOs you can be sneaky and peak around the pilot's seat to see if they're looking at the appropriate displays If all else fails, pretty much everything is recorded assuming the correct switches are flipped.

VAQ-129 instructors know enough about the other aircrew's job to be able to evaluate students appropriately. The only difficulty is that Instructor EWOs may not be able to aid student pilots in fixing mechanics issues with flying, but many events are formation flights with opposite crews (IP/Student EWO in one jet, Student Pilot/IEWO in another). So generally, the instructor pilot will be able to critique the flying ability of the student pilot in the formation.

Another Growler question, anyone care to speculate on the likeliness of this getting approved? It's pretty disheartening to me because the Growler is the platform I hoped to end up in but I can't imagine they'd be looking for many new Growler EWOs between now and when these planes would be getting placed into storage because they'll be filling empty seats with the soon to be squadron-less instead.

Just ignore the article and pursue your dreams. You’ve got a lot of training ahead of you.

Don't let budgetary shenanigans sway your decision. Also my 2 cents, but VAQ is probably the best place you can go as a double anchor type.

As others have said, this potential outcome has zero to do with your chances of selecting VAQ, which is an absolutely respectable thing for you to do. PM me if you want more info/details.
