Towbubba said he on base he purchased a H&K Mk 23, which is a .45 used by Seals and other special forces. you can also buy a civilian version, but I don't think it has a threaded barrel. He said he got a threaded barrel so I thought he purchased a Government issue pistol from the armory on base. You can buy guns in states other than the state you reside in, as long as your states laws comply. I live in MD and you can't buy pistols there anymore, (see earlier) So now I have to find a new state of residence so I can get a pistol. Looks like I'll have to get a place off base but I'll do whatever it takes. Trying to become a resident of the state I go to school in, VT

need a little clarification

OK so to get my story straight, what happens to my guns if I check into API and have to live on base. Do I get to register and keep them at home or must they go to the armory?

Also, anyone know much about the concealed carry laws in Florida?

Vermont gun laws are very good. Right to carry without a license to carry.

If you live in base housing you should be able to keep them in your house, just registered with the armory. If you live in the BOQ, you must keep them in the armory or keep them in off-base storage somewhere. I keep mine off-base.

Florida has a very good concealed carry system. The reciprocity of the license is good in nearly all the south, meaning you can go to other states with your CCL. I think it costs $100+ and it's good for a few years. It also lets you bypass the background check when buying firearms.

flynglthrnk: the mk23 mod0 and the civilian version Mark23 both have a threaded barrel. There are differences between the two of them but the are very slight and I can't remember what they are off the top of my head. For all you want to know about that peice go to www.mark23.com I love that peice. if I could aford one I would probably have it already. Although the civilian version is almost double the price of the military version

btw... in NY you are required to have a permit for any gun you own. The gun laws here are really strict although not as bad as Ca. Towbubba: I don't know if it's true or not but I heard that it is possible to own a Mark23 in Ca. You just have to have them ship it with the barrel replaced with on that is not threaded. Don't know if its true or not, but that's what I've heard.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between "base housing" and the BOQ? What does BOQ stand for?

Alright ametuers I bought a USP Tac .45 NOT a Mark 23. There is a difference of about half a pound in weight. It cost me a RCH over $1050 with no taxes (on base purchase). I am not BSing about buying weapons on base but if you are a poolee you have to wait until you are on active duty at TBS. The AD orders are the key and I found out you can bring your weapons into the state of California and register them when you return from AD and they can't say sh*t. You don't even need to register them if still on AD and stationed in Cali. Take that Fienstien and Boxer. Forida is a right to carry and a shall issue. That means if you can pass the background check they can't deny you. It is good for 2 years and you can renew through the mail if a resident and stationed somwhere else. Many other states honor Florida's CCL and I think you can have two handguns on it but not sure on that. Once you get one and don't waste anyone re-newing it in other states, even Cali, is very easy especially if you live on county land. Read my earlier post on buying weapons at the PX because that's exactly what I did at Quantico,VA on AD in March last year.

Did you get a suppressor to go on that threaded barrel? Suppressed weapons are lots of fun :D Any other advantages to getting the tactical instead of the normal USP? I'm looking into making a purchase...

Base housing would refer to an actual house on or on an annex to the base. Reserved typically for families. BOQ is Bachelor Officer Quarters, that's where the single folk live, if they live on-base. Living in the BOQ is kind of like a dormitory, in that you have a building full of BOQ rooms. What sucks is you can't keep your weapons with you.

I lived off-base for API and now that I'm in Primary, I live in the BOQ and share a 24/7 storage bay with a friend. It's conveniently on the way to the gun range ;)
