Besides showing up to my OCS commissioning ceremony in my new Service Alphas with my EGA's anchors aweigh/away (a kind staff sergeant pulled me aside and helped me correct my situation), the worst uniform flub I committed was as a brand new 0-4 in my brand new field grade mess dress at the birthday ball. First of all I could barely get the collar of the coat clipped. Secondly, as I approached the venue, I became painfully aware that I had not affixed.the requisite EGAs to my mess dress coat. It was a huge HQMC ball that to be honest I didn't want to go to, so once I realized my oversite, I bailed. 😄

Only appropriate recourse, of course. Somehow this reminds me of being a groomsman in a bud's wedding in Memphis. One of our other bros, maybe 4-5 hrs before the ceremony was like "hey I'm going to the NEX, anyone need anything?". I thought "hah I brought this dumb uniform 2500 miles to here, I've got this shit wired". And then 5 minutes before the limo left the hotel, I had a dual bates blowout. Turned out fucking joke was on me. But I highly recommend walking down the aisle with a good looking bridesmaid and two flat tires.........
No doubter...they're not nitpickers on uniform attention to detail in situations like this. I think you made a good command decision.
My 2ndLt ball story in P'Cola (I actually got stashed at a real command where I had to work a basic 9-5...not complaining, but it was no where near others no-show gigs)
I got a date last minute with this local girl. The command rented a limo...we went bar hopping, and consumed unnecessary amounts of liquor in the limo.
All that to say, it's no fun to wake up at your date's house in your Dress Blues on the couch with your lonely NDSM banging around on the living room couch...and her dad is asking what you want for breakfast. 🙂
She was a patriot though...

I got a good breakfast though from her and her dad the next day. Nothing salacious...just a 2ndLt being drunk out of his gourd.
It was pre-Uber. I'm sure she was disgusted by my behavior...😁
