Having PRK in < 10 days... any final words of advice?

Been about 26 hours sine I had the procedure done (yesterday around 1430(CST)

Went in for a checkup this morning, was 20/20 in my left eye, 20/40 in my right. Used to be 20/200. Doc said because I have the contat in my eye that my vision is even better without it in.

Went to sleep after that appointment, woke up a couple minutes ago, and visions even better in both eyes.

Good news is I don't have any halos/starbursts.

Thanks to everyone who contributed here.

If you had to ask me, on a scale of 1-10, what my pain was.... definately a 1.... havent had any pain since, just a little discomfort. (and I'm going to guess that is the contact lenses in my eye)

There's a lot of really great advise here. I got mine done a year ago, and I can see 20/15 now without any issues at all.

I'm glad to hear that your surgery went well! Just remember your eyes will only get better as time progresses. I was so worried that something would mess up and I would be stuck with some sort of vision impairment.

If anyone else is thinking of PRK this is a wonderful thread to read through. Otherwise its VERY difficult to find information on the topic for aspiring SNAs unless you know someone who's been through it.

My eyes feel great, and if I was going just by how they feel I wouldn't drop the tears in them... but I read that the surgery dereases sensitivity to dryness, so it might not feel dry but it is.

If anyone wants a recommendation for Chicagoland, PM me.

Question- my doctor said I shouldn't use generic eye drops, only brand names... so I end up paying $50 for 1 small bottle of roids.

Anyone know why this would be?

Could be his rep from that company has super big tities. Gotta love farma sales. Im having my last check up tomorrow, and submitting my waiver thurs morning. Ill make a post with my experience and everything associated with the waiver. My doc gave me my steriod drops, and they had no label on them. ( I applied, got accepted, was med turned down, and had PRK, havent seen a thread yet with that)

I remember it was very important that the eye drops should be preservative free for at least the first three months. I'm not a doctor or anything, but it was stressed a lot at the time. As far as the steroids, I'm not too sure. They should have given you a prescription, right?

It is now 20 Dec and I had my surgery on 17 Dec. My eyes have finally recovered to the point where I can look at this screen. My vision prior to the procedure was about 20/50. Right now it's as if my vision has gotten worse. Is this normal because I am getting a little bit concerned. Also, my eyes seem to be getting better/worse at different rates (Yesterday my right eye was stronger, today it is switched).

Any thoughts?

Your eyes are going to be retarded for a while. They'll be bad one minute and amazing the next. Just be patient. Make sure you stay hydrated, stay away from eye drops with preservatives, and make sure you are very diligent about doing the steroid drops and everything else the doc gave you. It's very important that you heal right, that's where your final vision is largely determined.

For you Tactical, I'd say not to worry. I got mine done in July and reported to NAMI for the official physical from hell just over 3 months later. I passed with no problems and was PQ for pilot again.

I just had my week and change checkup with my Doc (had several postops with his Optometrist but this is the first time that the Surgeon has seen me since the procedure).

He said everything was looking REALLY good and there was a good chance of me seeing 20/15. I was almost seeing 20/20 today and it floored the Optometrist. He said at this point most people dont see anywhere near that good.

Point is too just be patient and realize that PRK takes time to stabalize. Keep a strict regiment with your drops. My doc told me that I would probably be on some sort of drops for up to 6 months which proves how long it really takes for your eyes to return to normal.

you are 3 days out of surgery. At that point I still had my contact bandages in and was being driven to my apointments. This isnt Lasik, dont expect overnight results. Good luck, and stay motivated!

Dont worry about it. You'll get a pick-me-up when your contacts get taken out.

I got my right eye done yesterday morning and I went in for my post op today and was seeing 20/25 already but still cant see up close because of the dilation drops. Its very promising. I have a little discomfort and some blurriness but im excited about it.
