Help with eye issue, future SNA. NAMI Ophthalmologist

Did you ever commission? Were you discharged or still on hold somewhere?
We did not commission because we did not medically qualify. However, the CO gave us a certificate of graduation (dd785) and said OTCN would honor our graduation if we found a designator to rejoin the Navy in the future. EOD and Seal personnel I spoke with said they would honor OTCN’s decision so we wouldn’t (likely) have to do OCS again.

Not trying to doubt you but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone who didn’t complete OCS be allowed back and completely bypass the training.

No we both graduated OCS and completed the training. We got dq waiting in TMG for months after finishing
I have seen this before with one of my guys, he ended up getting the medical issue fixed and coming back in, but when it came down to it big navy said he had to go through OCS again as he never commissioned, so he did.

Apologies if I was blunt. I appreciate you both sharing your experiences.

I would be willing to redo OCS again if I had to. My understanding is I will need two yes’s from both the designated community I rejoin and from OTCN. Newport was adamant that they would honor my graduation, and then NSW at the time said they would honor Newport’s stance.

However, I understand big navy could still disregard this and make me redo it from scratch. If I would be able to regain my SNA designation, I would do it. I’d do anything to get it back.

For your previous candidates, did any of them successfully get CXL surgery and rejoin aviation? I do not need CXL since my topography has not progressed. So in other words, I’m perfectly healthy but NAMI thinks I could go blind. Ive heard that NAMI prefers two years of stability from one of my NFO friends who joined with this same medical issue. It seems like I was not offered NFO because of an application/bureaucracy issue.

Do you have any information regarding reapplying after a NAMI dq? I’m still searching for flight docs to help me submit an appeal.

My ophthalmologist is going to write me a letter stating that she does not believe I have Keratoconus. If all else fails I’m going to start an application with the Air Force.

Thank you both kindly again for providing your inputs.

I have seen several get back in after a DQ, often due to failing vision minimum requirements. If you can get positive results from the other eye docs give it a shot.

In their cases did they just directly reapply through your recruiting station? The only thing I’ve been told is to find a new flight doc and submit to NAMI again somehow. Other than that my recruiters don’t know what else to do to help me reapply as of right now.
