Man, when I saw the thread title I expected Hitler's resume - settling once and for all the question of whether or not he painted houses.

Not only did he paint houses, but it's rumored Der Fuehrer was a carpet layer as well ..... multi-talented or a first generation multi-tasker ??? :D

..... "Almost everyone who has written about Hitler has commented on his
rages. These are well known to all of his associates and they have
learned to fear them. The descriptions of his behavior during these
rages vary considerably. The more extreme descriptions claim that at
the climax he rolls on the floor and chews on the carpets.
Shirer (279) reports that in 1938 he did this so often that his
associates frequently referred to him as "Teppichfresser". (a.k.a. "carpet-eater") :)

There was actually a late war Warner Bros cartoon along this line --- "Herr meets Hare" .... saw it when I was a kid ... funny stuff .... haven't seen it for eons.

Bugs Bunny fools Goering by imitating Hitler.

I wonder how rug-muncher and his buddy Goering reacted when they saw how effective carriers were during the war in the Pacific.

Probably not too impressed ... at least not with der Teppichfresser being a "land" guy and Goering resisting any challenge to his authority and the Luftwaffe's position ...

Hitler was always a "land" guy ... not too big on the idea of sea power and sea control nor did he understand it --- U-Boats notwithstanding. Actually, he hampered the U-Boat campaigns if Admiral Dönitz is to be believed. During the 30's the German "Z-Plans" projected 4 fleet carriers along the lines of the KMS Graf Zeppelin ... a seriously flawed design in many ways, but probably O.K. for it's intended purpose -- i.e., commerce raiding and escort for battleship commerce raiders on the Atlantic trade routes.

Her top speed was to be 34 knots, crew complement was @ 1,800, and she was to hangar forty aircraft --- Stukas and modified Messerschmitt 109's with some torpedo aircraft to be determined. By comparison, the large American and Japanese carriers of WWII could carry 70 to 100 aircraft. While Graf Zeppelin had some advanced features she displayed her designers' lack of knowledge about carriers. The heavy surface armament (16 x 15 cm) was of little use and accounted for too much weight; the anti-aircraft armament was heavy but badly sited with most of it being on the starboard side.

According to the Kriegsmarine "Z" plan, concocted in the 30's, the German Navy would have grown to about 800 units in all, consisting of a core of 13 battleships and battlecruisers, 4 aircraft carriers, 15 Panzerschiffe (i.e. "pocket battleships" .. like the Graf Spee) , 23 cruisers and 22 so called "Spähkreuzer" which were basically large destroyers or destroyer-leaders. In addition to the heavy ships many smaller vessels and submarines would have been build.

This was plan B ... plan A actually being heavy on U-Boats with a much smaller surface component. This is essentially what happened in reality as Herr Hitler & CO. could not wait for the projected surface fleet completion date of @ 1945-1946 and kicked in the Polish door on September 1, 1939. It's highly doubtful whether or not German industry could ever have produced the ambitious "Z" plan fleet in any case.

Yeah, it's too bad that Warner Bros. (Time Warner) prohibited it from being shown (except for a few specials on Bugs and WWII). Don't want kids laughing at Nazis, I guess.

If you want to see the war era cartoons and some of the ones that are, shall we say, more edgy unedited, pick up the Looney Tunes Gold Collection(I believe that's what it's called). My Animation teacher used to show us those as a demonstration of various techniques, and there were a lot of the cartoons on there that they no longer broadcast because they are seen as "controversial."
