My parents installed a condensing tankless water heater in their house 8ish years ago. Their experience is really making me consider getting rid of my tank and going tankless. They spend less $ on natural gas and never run out of hot water. They also don't worry about things like a water heater leaking into a basement/garage/utility closet.

My water heater was new with the house and thusly is almost 5 years old, but it's next on the list to go.

I am looking to gain some space, and save some money. I am going to start looking into these again as I don't want to be looking when the water heater has failed.

Good idea.
My brother bought one when it was on sale, and it's sitting in his garage (in the box) until he's ready to install it. That's probably the most economical way to do it.
