How do you go about seeing a doctor outside of MEPS for a wavier?

I need to see an endocrinologist for a waiver but MEPS doesn't have one. So I'll have to find one myself. I don't have health insurance, so I was wondering if there is any way I could see a doctor without paying so much out of pocket. Thank you.

Have you discussed this with your recruiter? Your recruiter can work with MEPS staff to see if they can support a consult.

Otherwise, you’re just going to have to find a way to pay for one.

It seems like there is more to this, every person I had that needed a waiver that appeared to meet waiver criteria was sent by MEPS to get a consult, the few that had to pay out of pocket were those who would likely not meet waiver criteria.

Also, MEPS has general practitioner Doctors, anything else is a contracted consultant Doctor.

This was the email I got forwarded from my recruiter:

"
Chief,

I have attached the N33 Determination Letter for Officer Applicant Omali requesting additional medical information. Please refer to #3 on the letter as it references what information they are requesting. MEPS does not have an endocrinologist to provide the information needed, if Applicant Omali can get his thyroid nodule evaluated and assess his thyroid function, we can resubmit his waiver. I will continue to seek guidance on what MEPS can provide for the applicant but if he can do it on his own it may be a quicker process.

Please keep me posted on what the applicant wants to do from here."

It seems that they don't have one, unfortunately, so I more than likely have to find one. It sucks tbh but I don't think there's any other choice.

I guess I could also email my recuctier asking if a general doctor can do the assessment as well. Because at MEPS one of the doctors I saw assessed my thyroid and I don't see why another one at MEPS couldn't. Unless, they want a specialized doctor, as mentioned in the email.

Resubmit is indicating it was initially submitted and denied, they are saying if you want to continue to try it is on your own. I have seen that before and it was when N33 didn't think the person would meet the requirements. I only had 1 person who went out on their own and actually was successful in getting cleared.

Ok I see then, thank you for the clarification. I'll go looking for an endocrinologist then.
