Making Recruiting Great Again
If anyone needs a place to stay in Austin, yall are more than welcome to stay at my apartment for the time being. We've got plenty of space and whoever stays first can call dibs on the infamous comfy couch (H20man knows what im taking about). Plus, I think my roommate will be gone so possibly another room might be available.

Nope...I got to experience that vast wonderness of Enid, America...Hey, sometimes a guy needs his Cowboy Burger:D

Enid must have upgraded since you left, there's a Chili's.

Applebees is terrible. Everything tastes like it was microwaved in plastic wrap.

Antoher Reason Why I Drive A Truck

So I went to get sandbags today for the house...I showed up to fill 'em up, and was the only guy there. And the only one with a truck. This poor Coastie wife was trying to fill sandbags on her own while the "work party" (lazy MA types) were watching. They said they were there to make sure nobody hurt themselves with a shovel. Needless to say I ended up running the shovel for this lady and myself while she held bags (no jokes now guys:D) She had a Celica, so we also agreed 25 bags of sand were probably too much for her car.

We had planned on making 50 for the two of us. Halfway through the NASCC base CO and the base XO's wives showed up and started helping out. They were awesome ladies (yes, the MA types were still standing there) and a lot of help.

About 10 to go and one of my buddies from VT-35 shows up with his CRV type car/SUV (You can see it behind my truck in the second pic)

He needed some for his house and his neighbors house, as she was watching his kids.

So we ended up shovelling about 100 sandbags between the four houses and they all went in the back of the truck. We figured about 5000 pounds of sand.

Gotta love a Ford...try and do that with a Hybrid:D

Now it looks fairly certain to head into the Gulf...

This thing can hit New York...wow. I'm impressed. That's like a track infused with Cialis.

It seems to have zeroed in on the breezeways at encantada. If my house gets destroyed by a hurricane, do i still get my deposit back? will the landlords sift thru the debris and go "that scratch wasn't on that drywall when it was still on the third floor"

Ha... man, I'm right down the street and hopefully far away from the epicenter you've created.

How high do you think the storm surge could be if it were a direct hit on the Island? 10 feet inland? I sure hope the Pelican will be there, the drummer for the last big event(a power outage) played all the way through the lights being out. I'd like to seem him top that.

I'm waiting a little bit longer to see what the storm will do but I'm trying to decide between SA and Austin. I wouldn't be opposed to an AW throwdown at the Riverwalk. Any reccomendations?

Good luck getting a place in Austin....

As for the plounge....haha I hope it blows that mofo right out into the gulf to never return

Latest info from VT-31's meeting: Evacuating tomorrow and waiting on info from the base if everyone else needs to leave. Latest news has Ike hitting about 50 mi to the north which is right around Matagorda. I was told to pack for about 5-6 days. I'm moving my stuff up stairs and probably leaving the bike in the garage. I hope the surge isn't too bad, but that's why we have insurance. So far, I'll be leaving my car on base as well. Again, hopefully it won't flood but insurance is there for a reason.

By bike you mean motorcycle or bicycle-bike? If the former, double-check that your comprehensive covers flooding from hurricanes. Friend of mine got screwed like that after Isabel hit Norfolk in '03 and washed out his car. Took him six months calling shenanigans on the company before they finally paid up...then refused to renew his policy.

It's my motorcycle, but I called all my insurance and everything is covered. I used the scenario that a cane was coming through and destroyed all my stuff and they said I was covered.

So let me get this straight. All sims and ground school are canceled tomorrow, and the last of the evac aircraft are leaving tomorrow morning, however we haven't received word that we can personally leave yet? Seems to be quite the opposite of what we were told at the HURREVAC stand down. The bit about "we'll make sure that we can leave before the rest of the city does". Obviously there's good reason to have us stick around, you know with no sims, no instructional flights and no ground school Thursday or Friday, right?

From the NASK meeting today, I gathered that we were mando-evac at 0800 Thursday and that NASCC & Ingelside were all on the same page.
