This isn't new. At least 5 years ago met a volunteer Sheriff's Office pilot from a neighboring county. He was a Bell 212 pilot for a contract operator providing rapid response support to spec ops and DEA in central and South America.

Big news in the helicopter world: Bristow purchases Columbia. Bristow operates 233 helicopters worldwide to include S-92's and H-225's, primarily in oil and gas. Columbia operates 21 tandem rotor heavy lift helicopters (BV-107 and BV-234 which are the civilian type ratings for the Phrog and the Chinook)

At NAVSEA last year the rep from Bristow noted they were pushing the idea of taking over rotary wing training for all DoD elements. I doubt they got too far.

Bristow ran the UK's Defense Helicopter Flying School until 2016 I think - so not surprised that they had aspirations to do the same thing here. That would of course be dependent on our services abandoning our cultural parochialism with respect to pilot training. Given that the last Navy/AF joint primary training was largely viewed as failure, not about to happen anytime soon :)

Ironic that the sole BV-234's were sold to Bristow and then Columbia picked then up for a fraction of the cost when these aircraft were banned from North Sea operations - and Columbia has been hugely profitable with these airframes.

Columbia is a disciplined, lean, well run business. They own the type certificates on the 107 and 234 and run these aircraft with ridiculous efficiency. I wonder how this is going to work.

Nice video from CBP Air.... did not know that CBP has IP's that are not sworn agents - that's something I want to look into asap.

Interesting they're wearing MSA helmets now. Those are super-lightweight, but I don't hear great things about them with goggles installed.

We just switched to a Gentex ANR helmet this year, we are having quite a bit of problems with the set-up. NVG's on the MSA helmet, it tended to slide down, the balance was off with the additional weight up front. Even with the NVG problem, I would love to have my MSA or Army helmet back.

Chuck, PM sent.

The crews I fly with have MSAs and they complain about the same thing...sliding forward with goggles. Sounded like it was worse than the HGU-84...if that's possible.

Opportunities abound - Santa Barbara County just aquired a surplus UH-60L and will be flying it in public service/Restricted Category. Very nice!

Didn’t know that NG was divesting of older Lima’s... great employment opportunities....
FWIW...FLARNG has one of those (Firehawk) as well down in Brooksville. They have removed most of the fire gear as its hard to get parts.
