So I checked my Officer Data Card on BUPERS and under Additional Qual Designators, I have J50 IA JT OPS. Does anyone know if this means I received "Joint" credit for my IA?

Nope, it's just a label that says you are qualified for an IA.......possibly again later on in your career. For the Joint Credit, just self nominate via the Joint section of Bupers.

I just volunteered for 14 month GSA orders. It's amazing how fast your orders get processed. I had 18 months to kill between my extended shore duty and (potential) DH tour.

If you volunteer for a GSA early enough, the detailer should have some choices for you. I had 15 or so billets.

Most of the crappy jobs (admin, prison guard, etc) were 6 months BOG. All the cool stuff was 12+ months BOG.

What's up with IA training at Ft. Jackson? Is this bootcamp style training?

Yes and no. In OCT '06, NIACT was taught by DI's - all reservists (exc. 1 former Corpsman, turned AD Army), all former boot camp DI's, and all SH to a man (and one kinda hot woman who always had a giant chaw in). NIACT atmosphere gets you the DI mentorship piece, without the harrassment package.

It plays to the least common denominator in terms of pace of the training (gotta cope w/ E-4 and below, and O-4 and above, minimum slope learning curves:D) and scope of training (you may only be going over to man a desk, but the junior enlisted kids heading over to drive convoys NEED ALL THE COMBAT SKILLS THEY CAN SOAK UP!!!).

There's also lots, and I mean LOTS, of hurry up and wait. But if you like camping and guns, or relish the kind of experiences that most of your high school buddies will never get, NIACT is a blast, and Udairi is even better.

Anyone know of a good deal IA? I may be needing one.
Whatcha lookin' for?

Scoob hit the mark but failed to mention the abundance of delectable MRE's. All flavors, hot and cold. Bring earplugs....the snoring people will drive you crazy at Ft. Jackson. (Open Bay bunk bed style barracks.) The Drill SGTS are good people and they will teach you the skills you need to survive if called upon to do so.

Apparently NIACT will no longer be at Beautiful Fort Jackson. Guy from my shop just finished there and says from now on it'll be in Wisconsin (Ft Something-or-other, the name escapes me). Next guy we have shipping out has orders for WI.
