I remember after winging (this is 1987 now) - we could take the Military Comp. Exam - for a recently winged helo guy that gave you a Commercial Pilot certificate with for Airplane Single Engine Land and Rotorcraft Helicopter and Instrument Airplane and Helicopter.
Even better when I went back to the HT's as an instructor, TW-5 policy allowed civillian FAA examiners to fly in the left seat of the '57 and we took the ATP ride FREE of charge - all on the Navy!! Which is how I got my ATP...
