So why do we have to do things the Air Force way in the navy? That's the thing that bugs me the most. When it comes to being "joint," being "joint" seems to mean doing things the air force way. Seriously, wtf? Don't the rest of us get a say in how to do joint things?

Someone explained to me that in joint areas each service is responsible for the conduct of certain types of activities. This is why everyone goes to Army jump school instead of having their owns schools, while the Marines are the boss of everything amphibious.

Is this accurate? I haven't a clue, but it might be involved in that somewhere.

The "Joint" way of doing things depends alot on what job it is. ie Army for jump school and ground type stuff. However the AF is the big money service with all the political connections, so they win when it comes to most of that crap. Though in some cases the AF actually does get it right. ie CSAR.

With regards to the NFO JPATs syllabus here, the whole CBT/book combination hasn't really been helpful at all. I've learned more from the hour long review lectures we have with the ground school instructors than the three hours I spent doing CBTs before the review. Plus, the CBT based books are worthless, I've had to reference the FTIs they give us for most answers, the CBT books are just gathering dust already.

Ditto on that. When the "textbook" is just a verbatim printout of the CAIs and you have a review of the material with the instructor anyway, the CAI is useless. Why not just give us the book, have us read it on our own, and come to class for the review? It would be one thing if the book supplemented the CAI material, but since the book is the CAI material, it makes no sense.
