So has anyone here been a f18 mechanic or know exactly what training sessions I have to go through as asked prior. Or do you know one I can talk to in email maybe? I really need to know soon.

If you're going reserves, you will be given a specific MOS. It should probably be 6217 or 6257, but I'm still not that good with the "new" 6200 series MOS's. Tell me what will your MOS be and I'll do what I can.

It's 6257. I think we've made sense of this but someone please verify and add.

Thats f18 airframe mechanic. I was 6217 but my boot camp date was pulled forward and they got me a different MOS to go with it. So my pensacola training in the book says 17 weeks.

So 13 weeks boot + 4 weeks infantry + 17 weeks pensacola = 1 year max? (thats if i have a long wait time to start mechanic school)

Is there any training I am missing?

One other thing, since it sounds like you are pumped on going enlisted first. Be mindful of the kinds of other other enlisted guys (drill instructors while in boot camp )you talk to about becoming an officer. Some Marines badmouth Officers and the Corps all day long and it can be easy to get sucked into their frame of thinking if things don't don't seem to be or are not going well. Other Marines will just dish out petty harassment if they find out you want to be an officer and make duty unnecessarily difficult. Life in general is difficult enough when you are PFC/Lance Corporal. Keep in mind I am by no means saying not to tell anybody about your future plans, just be mindful of who you tell and who you let find out. Good Luck

Add a week in between boot camp and SOI. Figure on another week between SOI and A school (actually figure on more like 4-8 weeks). Then once A school is finished, expect to have another 2-8 week wait until you start FREST, or C school or whatever it's called these days. That is where you learn the specifics of your airframe, and for that MOS could be kinda long, but don't quote me on specifics for o-level airframe training.

Anybody who tries to harass a Marine for seeking a commission should have his/her eyes gouged out and elbows broken. I took a ton of good natured jokes about what I was doing because I knew people were happy for me. If I was doing something I didn't want everybody to find out about I would have questioned whether or not I really wanted to do it.

I ran into the "good natured" harrassment too. It's all good. Although, he may be right in regards to your initial training (i.e. basic, SOI, etc.). I would probably keep those plans to myself until I got to my unit.

Don't they still do the "92 day reservist" deal? Basically you go to boot during one summer, train with your reserve unit for the year, then go back to "A school" the following summer. This way, the interference with college is minimal.

Ok, I read C school is in lemoore california. My recruiter said I wont have to go to one. Or he actually never heard of it. But if I do or I don't go im cool with it.

Oh yeah, I plan to keep my info secret unless asked. I'd rather stay silent in the back of the pack. I know they pull those forward some time but Im not gonna try to be a friend or foe to the DI. Not sure what to expect since everyone says different so I'm just oging into this all on high guard.
