Hey Rufio,

Should I consider retesting at a 52 5/6/6? I have the next two weeks off and could really get some quality study time in and possibly improve my scores. This is an all or nothing decision because I am age crit. And this will be my last board. My OR told me to not retest.

Those scores are marginal, the more competitive the boards become the less chance you have, but weren't you also applying to the USMC?

That's on my bucket list! Let me know next time you do that lol.
Funny engine noises are never "fun". During my practice checkride I did a simulated engine out over a field and got to about 400ft AGL before the instructor told me to put the power in. I pushed full throttle and the pistons over loaded with fuel and weren't firing at full power. I leaned the fuel mixture and pulled the carb heat but nothing changed and the the whole aircraft continued to shake and climb at only 100 ft/min. We headed to the nearest airport while looking for somewhere to land just in case, turns out the only safe place was where I just did the simulated engine out and that was too far away now. We were able to make it to the airport, but never got above 1,500ft AGL. We landed and turned off the engine for a few minutes, fired it back up, did run ups at full power, and did a couple high speed taxis. We were able to safely take off, finish the practice checkride, and get home. I flew 3 hours and took my actual checkride in the same aircraft a week later and she's the one I'm flying to Florida. I just make sure to clear the throttle once in a while in any low power setting and make sure not to throw it in so fast. It was the first time I really wished I had a harness hahah.

Sounds like you might have been flying something with an O-320

Hello everyone. Figured I'd take a break from finals to check into this thread. Here's a bit of my info:

Senior at Iowa State University
Major: Materials Engineering
Current GPA: 3.89
ASTB: 73 9/9/9

My recruiter said we can submit as soon as I get a transcript with my grades from this semester, which will be around mid-January, so I should hopefully make this board.
Good luck everybody!

In case anyone was wondering...

I am rescheduled for another physical...

got there at 6am left at 11:30. (Was supposed to be just measurements, sitting down, standing, weight, arm length, all that)

After my measurements I waited 2 hours before they told me to go to lab and get a test done....then they told me the doc would be with me shortly after the blood test.

I told them I was told by my HM1 that I already had a physical for a pre-commissioning and that I don't need another one.
They basically told me my recruiter and HM1 were clueless when it comes to aviation, and an aviation physical is a totally separate physical that you must need before even being considered into the aviation program.

So here I am waiting for my turn to see the doc (apparently the only one in the building). They have me wait for another couple hours before they said, oh your red blood count is low, we can't see you today.

Hell, this place is cursed.
