Japanese designate new field for FCLP

Almost same-same, Devril(sic)-Dog Sailwor (sic) Man ....

Lantau is built on bedrock ...

Kansai is built on shifting bottom with much sinking going on .. and on ... and on ... and much hissing as wrell (sic).

Ahhhhhhhhhh ... so. :)

I still like Kansai better than doing the "Tokyo shuffle" on my way to Okinawa. I'm going back for a breif TAD later this month and plan on using Kansai. I'll let you know if it's sinking noticeably.

What I meant about Lantau is that it was made out of the bay. I see what you mean difference-wise, though.

I'd thought the Japanese had arrested/compensated for Kansai's sinking. Something about giant pistons, anchored in the ocean floor? I could be wrong.

They did, they are, and they will ..... but it's all bandaids designed to ameliorate the original poor construction. You can see some of the ramp pads "shift" (ala IAH) when a heavy taxis over them.

The beat goes on ... and so does the LIP (local indigenous personnel) denial and hissing. :)

Roger, thanks. To hear the Discovery/Science/National Geographic channel talk about it, everything is hunky-dory. Or is that hunky-DOLLY?

Damn you lound eye!

Also, this was the first I had heard about CVW 5 wanting to get a different location for FCLP's. I can completely understand why, with Iwo Jima being so far away from Atsugi, though. Those dets to Iwo Jima were pretty col though, becasue they were so different than anything else we ever did. We would pack up and go there for 3 or 4 days and there was literally nothing to do there after work but go hiking and get drunk, which is what we did. Every time we went there we would make the trek to the top of Mount Suribachi, which was a very emotional experience. It was crazy standing up there, looking around the entire island as it is in complete silence, knowing what once happened there and how many lives were lost on that small island.
Anyone have FCLP pix from Iwo Jima? Ken, did you take any pics there? Find anything interesting when exploring?
