Kicking the habit.

Okay, So whats the Speed of Dark?
Does anyone have real working tips on how to quit smoking?
Over the years its gotten progressively worse, last time I quit I gained 10 pounds and almost flipped out at work.

I’ve pretty much tried it all. I want to stop.

Newports take the edge off.-Harvey:eek:

Find something else to occupy your time. Don't hang around smokers. Start running more. Chew toothpicks or gum. Don't tell yourself, "Ok after this pack I will quit." The only people I know that quit and stuck to it (including myself 4 years ago) have done it cold turkey. Good luck.

Smoke 'em

Just start trying to smoke when you're having a beer only.
There is a risk that you will be drinking gradually more, though...

I used the lozenges. They worked pretty good - because I was taking care of the oral fixation & the nicotine all at the same time. I feel your pain, it was tough for me - but once you find the right method for you(I had tried cold turkey, reducing my intake by 1 each day, gum, patch, and finally lozenges) it won't be that hard!

google image lung cancer/emphysema and you'll see some rough stuff. Good aversion therapy to go along with your lozenges.

I saw a girl at a local IDPA match who had a huge nicotine patch on her arm.

She was joking and laughing with some smokers who then offered her a smoke with the caveat, "We won't tell." She smoked it.

Stay away from "friends" like that.

It's been a year since I tried cold turkey. It's worked for the most part, but when I drink I find myself wanting to smoke. I've been sticking to cigars while drinking, but sometimes I don't have the money for one and fall back on cigarettes.

Just stop. Cold Turkey. Thats it.
And then tell yourself over and over that smoking is for white trash and hookers. and get disgusted with yourself. Seriously

Until you realize you CAN live like that! Shit, millions do it every day! :(

I had my last cigarette on June 14 2000. I still have dreams about smoking a few times a week. When I wake up my chest feels tight.

If I had one cigarette I would be back to my 1 pack plus-a-day habit.

Cold turkey is the only way I could have done it.

Five packs a day, Pall Mall, non filter, 'course they do not help anyway.

Shipmate (O-5) and I always joked about it, promised each other we would smoke at the other's funeral.

35 years ago, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, they gave him three months, he lived one. I did not keep my promise but never ever smoked again, save an occasional Partagas. Horrible death. He simply could not breathe. Horrible.

Leave them alone, you do not need them. All else is an excuse.
