You mean Fed-Ex isn't too expensive? <looks around expectantly>....We Don't get French benefits?!
No seriously. My parents were not exactly "time out" people. It was more don't do that. If I did it I got smacked.
Didn't we have a thread a short time ago talking about disciplining children where I was accused of not being smacked as a child? and how that made me a pu$$y? Come on guys...get your story straight. Pick a side! You're like politicians in here.
As I recall, getting spanked always sent a quick and clear, "You know you're acting like a little shit, and STOP it" message, and was useful as far short-term and immediate results. But I've got to say that time-outs were much more frustrating, degrading, humiliating, and memorable. Always reminded you of how little and powerless you were as a child, and that you WERE in fact subject to "the rules." (Negative rep vs. banning?!?)
'Course, the only thing I really tried to avoid in calculated earnest was getting my mouth washed out with soap; it tasted bad, it was always a protraqcted and messy struggle, and, much like the sunblock of my youth, always ended up in my eyes as well...
But, more pertinently, I'd like to stress that Airwarriors, while prone to gang tackling and choir-preaching, is in fact NOT a collective or hive-mind entity. There are too many potential queen bees running around and cannibalism is far too rampant.
