No i live almost two hours away and he is my closest so i have been in phone/ email contact and he is getting me a waiver for college GPA.

IMHO, if you have the time, it would be well worth it to take the drive and do a face-to-face with the recruiter.

Can someone please expound on this? If I haven't met with my recruiter face to face yet, can I still ask people to begin writing LORs for me and simply send them the necessary paperwork once I have received it? I also assume that traditional mail is acceptable in place of faxing LORs to a recruiter?

Get your LORs ready ASAP so they have plenty of time to write you a kick-ass LOR rather than one that was thrown together at the last minute. Snail mail should be fine but I just had my people email directly.

This may be program specific so definately ask your recruiter...

but I had only 4 LOR's. And I hand delivered them to my recruiter myself. None of them were sent directly to him nor did he care if they were the originals or not. My best one came from an O6 1300 who lives across the country from me and emailed it to me so you definately need to ask your recruiter what is required from you.

And I would definately be seeking them from people now. One of my biggest hangups was waiting for a LOR. It was my best one though so I waited as long as I needed to.

For the guy who originally asked the question: Dude, take a breather. If you're a decently qualified candidate your recruiter will hold your hand through the process. Just the fact that you already have a list of people who are willing to write LOR's is a good thing. Maybe get an ASTB study book and start hunting down security clearance ap info. That's probably the biggest pain in the ass. Someone who has known you at every address for the last 7 years.

I don't know if you've done this already, but have you asked your recruiter how many you might need? The guy I'm working with said 3 was a good number, 1 personal, 1 professional, and 1 academic, or 2 pro or 2 academic if one of the other isn't applicable.
Good luck with the app either way

LOR writers' credentials

Anyone know about the importance of the statuses of those who write our LOR's?

I don't know any mayors (of course through 6 degrees or less, I could get anybody's fake LOR, no problem!) or sheriffs or lawyers or many retired military folk, or if I do know them, we don't know each other that well, and while they may consider me an excellent Officer candidate, they don't actually know me as well as say, my university advisor, or my way-since-retired AF friend.

Will they toss the LOR's (and a candidate) aside if they're not from members of congress or local gov't, legal, folks like Schwarzenegger :)D), Joshua Chamberlain, or Mr. Yeager (now that'd be quite a feat!)?

Anyone floating around here who's served on an Officer selection board???

I can agree 100% on that. In the last 7 years I lived in like 4 different places

not to mention you start running out of people you know by like page 400 of that security clearance app...

Take his advice, get started on that now.

Plus the faster you get in the main application, the more it shows your recruiter how motivated you are to become an officer.

just my $.02

All in all good luck!
